Tachyon, I like Aldebaran, especially his nice short pasterns. In general, TBs tend to have longish pasterns in comparison to other breeds. I've been following the Facebook page of a lady from England who has three pleasure horses, a Friesan gelding, an Arabian gelding, and an Andalusian yearling filly. It's been interesting to see their conformation differences, and I particularly noticed that they all have short pasterns similar to Aldebaran. I wonder if the tendency in TBs toward longer pasterns contributes to unsoundness.
First, I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes the shorter pasterns. Whenever I watch the sales, first thing I do is go to the pasterns. Too long and I feel like it's asking for injury. Same with the angle. I want a nice angle, not too steep,.

Second, who's facebook page is this? I' think I'd enjoy following that page!

Also, the differences in conformation is interesting. One of my dad's oldest friends breeds Rocky Mountain Horses, and I was at their house, looking at their conformation shots before visiting the barn. I noted the longer pastern and was told that is what you want on them because they are gaited.

The Friesan is Apollo, the Arabian is Farouk, and the Andalusian yearling filly is Bella. The lady, Tara, mostly rides Farouk, while her husband, Ren, rides Apollo. If you check out the videos, you can see how short their pasterns are. Apollo's are very short in comparison with TBs. The filly has come a long way since they rescued her from a pretty bad situation.

His stud fee is ¥6,000,000 (about US$ 58,000).

Looks like there was some judicious editing in the 5th leg area :D
He is still popular and has already been fully booked!!

Shame he wasn't sounder, though another poster on a FB article noted they also had an AP baby from that crop who'd been in training with Ward, and he didn't hold up either, ended up with screws in his knee after breezing on the regular before he was even 2. Sounds like he's hard on his 2 yr olds.

90% of his business is getting early two year old sprinters that can run at Royal Ascot for big owners - I can't imagine it's an easy regimen for the vast majority of his two years olds that aren't the cream of the crop, but it's kind of the part of the market that Ward has cornered.

I hope they let his tail grow out over the past two years. The poor horse has what I call a "Hong Kong rat tail" in that photo.
Many of the runners at Sha Tin have very short tails, with the worst cut very short angled through most of the the tail, leaving only a wisp about a foot longer than the rest. Looks like a really bad mullet. Hong Kong is very warm and very humid...and those rat-tailed horses couldn't chase biting flies off their bodies if their life depended on it. :(
And the tails are really ugly.

He's in good flesh for a horse who's only been retired a couple of months.

Why not? Genuinely curious as to why you're offended by this one.

I took it the composition of the photo and the way Dudley is posed is more of the offense. I've seen other pictures of him and I think he will be much more handsome once he lets down.
