They're rather proud of him, aren't they? $3,000 fee? Really? That would make him the thoroughbred with the second-highest fee in all of Virginia, when he's probably going to be standing to sporthorse mares.

And if you want a grey sporthorse stallion, well, there are OPTIONS.

This grey fellow is up in Canada, jumps like a stag, and stands for $1400 US: https://bayviewstud.ca/derryinver-luxury-cruise
This grey Holsteiner has a fee of $650/fresh cooled dose: https://www.yancey-farms.com/product/coupe-de-coeur/

Any guesses where Mucho Gusto will stand? I think the only Kentucky farm that would have had interest in a son of Mucho Macho Man closed up shop in 2020.

Speaking of, I hate their new website.

Wow, it certainly is... minimalist. Their last website design was also horrid, very late 2000s instead of the mid 2010s when it was unveiled - but at least it has some farm info and a blurb on their racing stable. They've also changed up their facebook page. It used to only be news related to their stallions, but whoever runs it now seems to use it as their personal horse racing history, horse care, and random photo sharing soap box. With lots of typos, it kind of feels like someone's nana might be running it.

Back on the topic of stud farm websites, Hill n Dale will always win the award worst/most outdated design.

They aren't buying racing age horses. They are still buying stallions and mares.

I wonder if Dortmund's sale price was based on his value per pound of meat?
god, I wish we would stop selling ANY horses to Korea.

Over on HRN fans are talking about contacting the korean farm that purchased dortmund and offering to buy him once he's no longer wanted as a stud...

At that point he will probably be worth less than his plane ticket, so of all the fan groups "trying" to buy a retired stallion, this seems like one of the more realistic ones... if they can pool something like $50,000 to get him back to America.

When he first retired they couldn't find a farm that wanted to stand him, so he's put back in training, then retired for good, then he's off to Korea after 3 very unproductive seasons in Maryland
2018/2019 - 14 foals from 25 covers - 56%
2019/2020 - 8 foals from 17 covers - 47%
He covered 13 mares in 2020

I'd be shocked if he was sold to Korea for anything close to $100,000. I'm kind of shocked that anyone anywhere would be interested in him as a stallion. No pedigree, soundness issues, and dodgy fertility. I guess the allure of his first crop turning two in 2021 leaves the chance that he could sire a superstar.

This isn't meant to be a roast of Dortmund, but just saying why I think it isn't all that unrealistic that common folk would be able to afford to bring him back in a couple years' time. 40-50k sounds like a lot of money, but in the horse racing world, heck even in the showjumping world, it's the bottom end of the market.

Most of the Swedish stallions at stud this year, a nice mix. Really looking forward to what Swipe's offspring do as 3yos.
