Goldencents' son, Mr. Money, who has lived up to his name, has been retired to stud at Journeyman Stud in Ocala, Florida. Mr. Money won graded stakes races and well over a million dollars on the racetrack, and is the first son of Goldencents to go to stud. Goldencents, the leading second crop sire in 2019 and the leading third crop sire this year, has only three crops of horses to go to the racetrack so far.

He has had three bullet works which is a good sign, Trouble is, he did not exactly pick an easy spot. There are about a half dozen colts in the same race that sold for six figures including a 385K and a 370K. Also top trainers like Asmussen, Mark Casse, Dallas Stewart, Albert Stall, Tom Amoss have horses in that race and Brad Cox, who has been hot lately, has a couple. Big time sires too like Into Mischief.

So, I am hoping for a good race for Goldenite. With the apparently tough competition, I would be happy if he just finishes in the money and has a decent time. Go Goldenite.

Goldenite was kind of a disappointment in his first race finishing 9th, over 15 lengths back but, according to the chart, did have some excuses. First of all, the winner named Prate looked very impressive. He is by hot sire Into Mischief and could be a real Derby prospect in 2021.

Goldenite started slow, was bumped and taken up where he spotted the leaders many lengths, according to the chart. It was his first race, so with a race under his belt, and an easier spot, I expect Goldenite to do better, maybe much better. Probably won't be a 2021 Kentucky Derby prospect, but I still want to see how he does in his next race.

Goldenite is entered on the under card of the LeComte Stakes at the Fair Grounds on 1/16/21 in another MSW race. It should be a little easier this time as Prate, who won Goldenite's first race is now a winner and will be running against other winners from now on. The second place colt in that race, Blameworthy, is entered in that race and has finished second in both of his races so far.

Like the last time, there are some top trainers in this race like Brad Cox, Steve Asmussen, Mark Casse, Dallas Stewart, Wayne Catalano, W. Bret Calhoun, etc. There are also some six figure colts including a 600K and a 475 K . One good thing is that 9 of the 12 main starters (there are 3 AE's) are first time starters. So, it doesn't look easy but it should not be as tough as the last time and Goldenite should get a better trip.

Goldenite finished 6th, 9 lengths behind the leader in that, his second race. So, despite the good workouts, it doesn't look like he will be anything special. I will keep an eye on him, but I don't expect anything great to happen. I do wish him luck.

I do like another Goldencents 3 year old named Goldini. He just won his second race and looked pretty good doing it. The race itself was a 1 mile maiden claimer on turf with a 50K claiming price at Santa Anita. I know that claiming races do not generally get great racing careers started, but he did look impressive to me. Goldini also was claimed out of that race by trainer Philip D'Amato. Anyway, I am interested in seeing where he goes from here. I would not be surprised if his next will be an allowance race or maybe even a stakes race. Maybe the Pasadena Stakes on the 27th of February, a 100K stakes race on turf at Santa Anita.

Goldenite is entered in a 8.5F MSW race on the Risen Star Stakes undercard at the Fair Grounds on the 13th of February. Goldenite is the only colt in the race who was sold for under 6 figures (25K in his case). There are seven horses who were sold for 6 figures including a 645K and a couple over 400K and a 385K. Trainers in that race include Mark Casse, Dallas Stewart, Albert Stall, W. Bret Calhoun, and Steve Asmussen has 2 horses in the race. So, it looks like once again, Goldenite is in over his head (Having said that, Goldenite might win now).

No, I doubt that we will see Goldenite in the winners circle as long as he faces fields like this. More likely he will end up in claiming races, but He might do better in MSW races if he goes to a smaller track, or by the end of the year most of the best 3 year old colts will no longer be maidens and he could face a weaker field. Anyway. just hope he gets the breaks and ends up on a nice farm someplace when his racing career is over.

BTW, one of the colts in the field is by California Chrome. I know there are fans of CC on this forum, so his name is Chrome Finish. His BM sire is Distorterd Humor. His trainer is Asmussen and his sales price was 175K. I wish him luck too.

After taking a closer look at the field in the 4th race at the Fair Grounds on the 13th of February, I don't think that the competition for Goldenite is as tough as I originally thought. Every horse in the race has raced before and the only ones to have done very much are Run Classic, who finished second in Goldenite's last race and Grey Storm, who finished second in a turf race at Sam Houston race track.

Run Classic will probably be the favorite but Goldenite has a good chance to finish in the money (top 3). So, despite the expensive rivals and the top trainers and also top sires like Tapit, Curlin, Ghostzapper, Candy Ride, etc., I think that Goldenite has a much better chance than he had in his last two races. The extra distance could help too (8.5F compared to 6F).

I missed a colt name Alejandro in that 4th race at the Fair Grounds on the 13th of February. Alejandro finished second in his last race at Churchill Downs, a 85K MSW race. He finished over 9 lengths behind the winner, Caddo River, who won with a time of 1:35:22. Caddo River went on to win a stakes race.

Anyway, Alejandro, trained by Steve Asmussen, could be a tough one in Goldenite's next race, so it could be a tougher field than I thought. We should find out Saturday.

Goldini is not nominated to the Pasadena Stakes on the 27th of February, so I now wonder where he will be racing next now that he is no longer a maiden. He did have a workout on the 14th of February. He did look good in winning his last race on the 18th of January, a maiden claiming race on turf with a tag of 50K, and he did get claimed, so my guess is that he will either be entered in an entry level allowance race or maybe a starter race. We should find out soon.
