BH Stallion register says that Valor Farm stallions
Congaree and
Stonesider have been pensioned.
Grasshopper is also listed as a "former stallion" on the Valor Farm website.
Congaree... I remember liking him as a three year old but *loving* him when he was a five year old. He was one of the most versatile, long-lasting horses of the 2000s. Too bad he hasn't gotten adequate recognition.
My rescued harlequin macaw is named Congaree.
He was named after the river in South Carolina, but I have always had a fond spot for Congaree, the racehorse, as a result. His five-year-old year was exceptional.
I really loved Congaree, too, and saw him in person several times.
He was already a serious contender for TC at three.
But he showed his best as an older horse especially going a mile, while his defeats in the Big Cap and the BCC were heart-breaking.
I always hoped he would beat MDO somewhere at five...
I also loved the way Tom Durkin called him in NY especially for his three consecutive G1 victories at Aqueduct.
