The Tapit half to Scat Daddy won. Did I actually hear a horse at Del Mar (or maybe East Coast) named "Really Slow?" I'm going to check with Equibase, but. . .

Yes, a colt by Congrats, now 1 for 6 after doing nothing today. Who names a horse "Really Slow?"
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

Perhaps they were aiming for irony while settling for accuracy.

Idol (Curlin - Marion Ravenwood). The 3yo colt just broke the track record for 9.5f at CD in only his third start.

Christophermarlowe (Tapit x Dress Rehearsal)

Too bad he got sold to Hong Kong and they changed his name to Cloud Nine. I swear every horse that gets sold to Hong Kong ownership gets a name change.

They do, and usually they are brutal. Though I don't mind Cloud Nine too much. They like the eponyms over there... when Lines of Battle was renamed Helene Super Star it was just too much to handle!

I've seen that any horse who has words in its name that hit that Communist Party disapproval zone (like Rebel, Revolution, War, Revolt, Freedom, etc.) gets a name change to something more socially acceptable.

So when a horse gets imported into Hong Kong, it is unnamed, regardless of if the horse already had a name. So the owner then has to go through the process of naming the horse again. Sometimes they re-register it with the original name but more often than not they rename.

My guess for why this is something that happens if they import all their horses, so its probably to avoid multiple horses having the same name. It could also just be due to them wanting to give the horses snappy, pop culture-ish, maybe even fun to say names.

Like G1Spw Monarch of Egypt (American Pharoah - Up) was gelded and sold to Hong Kong, he was imported about 2 weeks ago and is now listed as unnamed there. https://racing.hkjc.com/racing/informat ... _2020_E274

The New Zealand bred Matchbreaker was imported to Hong Kong and renamed...... Monster Kaka. I just hope that name doesn't mean giant turd which is what I think when I see it.

I don't think they have rules against that as there are horses with War and Rebel in their name currently racing in Hong Kong.

Not real clever, but a good reminder right about now.....

Life Is Good
2 C Into Mischief - Beach Walk

Running in the 2nd at Del Mar today.
The West's sold him at Kee-Sep for $525,000
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

I’m more interested in Democrat, the other Baffert. What are the odds he’d have a horse in with that name with no bullet works? Bet the farm! But I wonder, does he not switch to his right lead? If he wins will the other horses demand a recount and all go into the winner’s circle?
