He has 2 I can think of, his one won the BC Juvenile Turf last year, Structor and he had Mr. Monomoy earlier in the year pointing to the Derby but he got hurt. I was going to say I don't remember hearing about Structor since but he apparently hasn't raced since. So its kind of bad that his best 2 apparently have soundness issues.CorridorZ75 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 8:02 pmHas he done much ever? I can honestly not come up with one horse he has sired off the top of my head right now.

You are right. I had completely forgotten about those two and , and that made me remember he had a good turf filly as well, Crystalle, who apparently was out for the year as well until just recently. Yeah, it isn't great that his top ones seem fragile.

I still think he is doing okay. He has 3 GSWs (1 G1, 1 G2 and 1 G3) and 2 other SWs. Sure he could be doing better but he seems like the best stallion Three Chimneys has had in awhile, in terms of a young stallion.CorridorZ75 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 9:18 pm You are right. As with every year, I'm looking forward to the Report of Mares bred which should be out this week unless its delayed because of covid. Its going to be really interesting this year.

At least in Japan we can hope that he'll probably be bred to a sounder group of mares.Slewfan2 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 12:10 pm Nadal has been sold to Shadai and, in fact, is already in Japan...

I would guess that Nadal will be much more popular in Japan than US breeders can possibly imagine.Gemini wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 2:29 amAt least in Japan we can hope that he'll probably be bred to a sounder group of mares.Slewfan2 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 12:10 pm Nadal has been sold to Shadai and, in fact, is already in Japan...

He is going to be a red-hot Roberto-line stallion for Japanese breeders.
Such young stallions as Maurice and Epiphaneia have revived the popularity of the Roberto as the two lead the 2yo sire ranking this year.
The Roberto must be a great source of the stamina and the versatility. And Nadal, undefeated, has the tremendous speed, too.
I just guess that he will start at around $30-40K.
But I will not be surprised if he soon becomes one of the top stallions in Japan.
What a timely purchase by Shadai!

I’m confused, because you have said that Honor Code has been bad (we’re talking this year)...yet PM has been doing fine ? He’s 12th on the 2nd crop sire list ...even with Mr. Monomoy and Fly on Angel this year. That’s not good (and I’m not stumping for HC - he hasn’t been that good- though I think he’s been inconsistent much more than outright bad).Flanders wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 12:30 amI still think he is doing okay. I judged them both off their cumulative records and earnings never factor in. Its their overall numbers and Palace Malice is doing better than HC. He has 5 SWs (3 GSWs), compared to HC's 2 GSWs. I don't think he is doing good either but he is doing okay, which is slightly better than bad.Slewfan2 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 8:06 amI’m confused, because you have said that Honor Code has been bad (we’re talking this year)...yet PM has been doing fine ? I forgot to mention, I wonder if they are trying to bring Charlatan back to the races because I thought Hill N Dale had acquired his breeding rights.Flanders wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 12:28 am Hill N Dale at Xalapa

Assuming Malibu Moon's fee drop doesn't reflect poor fertility, at that price he's good value for starting out a young commercial mare.
Jimmy Creed is doing a useful job as a bread-and-butter horse but might be better value at $5k - $7.5k.
Free Drop Billy looks like his mom and half-brother Hawkbill and not much like his dad. It wouldn't be surprising for his foals to take after that side of the family (grassy milers).

Flintshire has to be one of the worst gambles on a stallion in North America for a long time. The Danehill line has pretty conclusively failed in NA wherever it has been tried -- Silent Name up in Canada is the best of the bunch and he has a synthetic track at Woodbine to help him. Coolmore and Darley have heaps of Danehill-bred horses and except for Astern, whose is here as a son of Medaglia D'Oro and not for his dam line, they have none in NA. Juddmonte has plenty of Danehill-line stallions and none of them are here either. If the big names aren't bringing them in, there's a reason. Noble Mission didn't last long, even with his impeccable pedigree and credentials.
It's very unsurprising that Flintshire's two winners to date are at Woodbine and in England. I don't expect that to change. Most likely he'll sold by the end of 2021.
As for Kitten's Joy, his stakes production has dropped precipitously in the last 3 or so years. Some of that is the effect of the Ramseys drastically trimming their racing and breeding operation, some is undoubtedly an effect of huge books of maybe not-entirely-suitable mares. He has the 2nd highest number of runners in NA this year after Into Mischief, and lowest average earnings per starter of the top 15 stallions. Either way, between grass, a high stud fee, low sales figures, and diminishing results on the track, I am surprised Hill'n'Dale didn't go down to $50k with him. Not sure how negotiable they are on that number, either. I say this as someone who likes him as a sire and loves grass racing.

Taylor Made is pretty light on stallions. Other than Not This Time most are unproven or very low priced. I guess they make most of their money with sales yearlings. A far cry from the days of UBS. I visited once, people very nice and fun to see all the babies and mares as well as the stallions. I kind of got the feeling it was sort of like a racehorse factory- not as luxurious or boutique feeling like some farms. I did get to pet UBS and feed him mints about 3 mo before he died which I will always be grateful for.

I don't know if you mean quality or numbers because they've always been on the smaller side for number of stallions. Maybe I am wrong but I feel like they've normally stood 4 to 6 stallions. UBS was their best stallion and I believe their first stallion. They bought Saint Ballado to stand there in 1998 but he died young in 2002. I feel Northern Afleet and Forestry were around the same level as stallions. But Forestry, who at one point stood for at least 125k, fell out of favor pretty fast and was gone. Besides that I think they've had a revolving door of stallions, which is normal. Historically its around 25-30% of stallions end up staying in Kentucky and they aren't bringing in new stallions every year. I think Not This Time looks very promising but with his first foals only 2, still unproven.Squeaky wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 5:24 pm Taylor Made is pretty light on stallions. The thing I like about Not This Time is that he is by Giant's Causeway and helps to keep the Storm Cat line vibrant. The thing I dislike about Not This Time is that he is at Taylor Made. Plus he only raced 4 times with 2 wins before being injured.Squeaky wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 5:24 pm Taylor Made is pretty light on stallions. Add North Light to that list. It was exciting when Adena announced that they'd be standing a Derby winner, I still can't believe his advertised was $50,000 his first season. He still ended up a dud.Slinky_Malinky wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 3:03 pmFlintshire has to be one of the worst gambles on a stallion in North America for a long time. I'm bummed that Noble Mission and Flintshire both haven't taken off. When they were announced as standing in Kentucky I was hoping it would be a throwback to yesteryear when top turf racehorses became world class stallions in Kentucky.
