12 furlongs is not Strad’s best distance. Losing to Anthony Van Dyck, who hadn’t won since last year’s Derby, is more of a surprise. The O’Brien family was on fire last weekend.

First Derby winner to win a race after his Derby since Harzand won the 2016 Irish Derby after his Epsom victory.

I wouldn't be too concerned about Stradivarius' defeat, 12f the Prix Foy was run at an absolute dawdle, 9 seconds slower than the 12f run in the Grand Prix De Paris, and in the end it was a matter of who had the best turn of foot to sprint the last two furlongs. I wouldn't be surprised if Stradivarius will go straight to the lead try to make all in the Arc in order to ensure a proper stamina test.

Kameko was back to his best, winning the G2 Joel Stakes over a mile at Newmarket today. Nice to see after some luckless runs and tries at longer distances. Really bummed to read that he probably won't race on at 4, with trainer Andrew Balding saying he's too valuable as a stallion prospect. I love the horse, but I can't really see how a dual G1 winning son of Kitten's Joy, who has had a bit of an underwhelming 3 year old campaign, is really a priceless stallion prospect in England. Especially compared to prospects that Coolmore and Darley have. I know the connections lost Roaring Lion young, but Roaring Lion was a superior racehorse by a mile, and, if anything, Roaring Lion dying from colic at age 4 is proof that there is no guarantees in the sport, whether you retire your stallion at 4 or 5.

That is a shame to hear. Not only because he is only 3, but they wasted half of the season trying to get him to stretch out in distance. I don't think we've seen the best of Kameko and I'd be sorry to see him retire at year's end.

Think its the 2000 Guineas win. Most of the winners retire at 3 because its a mile race.

True, Enable and Love look really unbeatable this year.
And Persian King, who is seen as a miler, has no experience for 12F.
But, out of an Arc winner Dylan Thomas mare, he is going to be the first Arc starter for the red-hot sire Kingman.
Yes, I have been a big fan of Kingman (and his female family) and I'm glad that Fabre gives Persian King a shot.

Oaks winner and second favourite Love has been withdrawn from the Arc due to unsuitable ground. Will be aimed at Breeder's Cup Turf instead, with the Japan Cup and Hong Kong Vase as options after that.

Yes! If you're looking for a bet, In Swoop is bred to love running in a bog. His mother was a mudder, literally. And so was his father. German Derby and Oaks winners who won in heavy going.

From Racing Post:

The official going at Longchamp was updated on Friday morning to heavy (4.6) for Saturday and holding (4.4) for Sunday, with the expectation of heavy ground on both days.

France Galop director of racecourses Matthieu Vincent reported that the track had taken a further 13mm by 8am on Friday, with potentially as much again forecast during the rest of the day.

There is further persistent rain due on Saturday before the potential for some respite on Arc day itself.

The Arc has only been run on ground officially described as heavy twice in the last 25 years – races won by Montjeu (1999) and Solemia (2012) – but that now seems not much more than a formality for the Qatar-sponsored meeting which starts on Saturday with a pair of Group 1s, the Prix de Royallieu and the Prix du Cadran.

Both Aidan and Joseph O'Brien's runners in France this weekend may be forced to scratch after their feed was found to be contaminated with Zilpaterol. They are trying to rush blood and urine tests but Saturday's entries may run without the test results back. Both trainers have switched feed brands since the contamination was found. They are hoping the test results for the Arc runners will be back Saturday evening.

I know Aiden already withdrew Love, who may come over for the BC Turf, but which others from the combined O'Brien yards are losing their chance in this classic?
