In the wild, young stallions band together in bachelor groups and form bonds. I suppose even adult breeding stallions will bond with another stallion on the other side of a fence, as long as there isn't a mare in season around.
Horses are herd animals, and even stallions need to be able to socialize a little.

In addition to being in adjacent paddocks, Rahy and Wild Again spent years living in stalls across from each other. In short, they could probably see one another almost all the time. So they must've had some sort of relationship, even though they never had had physical contact. They were both docile, gentle stallions, but someone more knowledgeable about stallion behavior would have to say whether that played any role.

I'm thrilled american breeders are at least giving him a chance. I know they were looking at possibly sending him overseas for stud. I think starting off in a regional market such as louisiana is a great choice for imperial hint. He has a chance to get good mares without having to compete with the top Kentucky stallions. And if he turns out to be a big success as a stallion, he's close enough that either Kentucky breeders can ship,breed to him and foal the mare out in Kentucky for a Kentucky bred and those incentives OR they can pull a Kantharos and move him to a Kentucky farm once they have a better idea of how successful he is. Also I imagine being in louisiana, he could draw from some of the florida based breeders also

So the question is as a breeder if you had to pick a new stallion at lanes end for 2021 to breed to. Do you go with game winner? Or Honor AP? Or neither? I'd probably prefer to send my mare to honor AP. I can get that honor code and AP Indy bloodline at a much cheaper price than to go to honor code himself

Does having Candy Ride as a sire help or hinder Game Winner's prospects? Have any of CR's sons been doing well at stud...besides Twirling Candy?
And am I crazy to feel like too many of Candy Ride's offspring have retired kind of early due to injury?

Why go with a new stallion, both of which will be overpriced. If you want AP Indy at LE, you've got Mineshaft at 20K or even Mr Speaker at 10K ( with one more Gr1 winner than AP).

If you really want Candy Ride, go with the one son at stud that didn't fall apart through a full racing career- Gun Runner ( probably because he has always looked more like him damside.)

I remember Mandella saying Candy Ride had small feet for his size- probably not too much shock absorption- wonder if he passes those small feet on and if they predispose to injury?

Well Shared Belief certainly had crappy feet, Mastery broken down in spring of three year old year, Game Winner had a horrible paddling motion, and Vekoma's is somehow worse. He apparently gives both brilliance and faults.

Candy Ride was just a brilliant racehorse and he seems to have gotten fair books initially. But I think there was some skepticism because a lot of SA runners flopped at stud. (Siphon Invasor Gentlemen even Forli, and a lot of good SA mares didn't produce either. )But I think Candy Ride is the exception--he has a strong US pedigree especially for stamina, The paddle foot is a concern for sure but nowadays no one seems to care if they can breeze in 20 and change.

Mr. Speaker has 1 grade 1 winner in the US - if he has another anywhere else, I’m unaware of it. He’s well behind Honor Code on the 2nd crop sires list, so I’m sorry, I don’t see the appeal. Mineshaft is a solid sire, but he’s 20 plus years old and has only sporadically sired top horses.

Tapit’sGal. I don’t think you will get unbiased responses re: HAP because most people on this board didn’t think highly of him as a racehorse and even less of him as a sire prospect. I think HAP could be a very good sire because IMO he was a very talented racehorse, but I’m not completely convinced mostly because I don’t know about Honor Code...certainly I’m not sure of his prospects as a sire of sires. That said, you should go with your gut...
