Having had friends have to remove horses with broken femurs and pelvises from their stalls when they can't stand, my heart goes out to the staff at Juddmonte. It's a horrible and heartbreaking thing to witness and be a part of. Emotionally and physically draining.

When my mother (obese and suffering from dementia) had to be placed in a nursing home, the staff used a kind of winch to lift her into the air and down into a wheelchair. I've really never gotten over that sight.

To be fair I think this is a trend that has been concurring for quite a while, WinStar business model or not. I think Sea Hero had a G1W the year he shipped out to Turkey. I can't think of any other examples off the top of my head but I know I have noticed this trend.

Its happened so much. I don't remember what forum it was, maybe here a long time ago, maybe Final Turn, but it almost became a running joke that once a stallion was sold overseas, the stallion usually got a really nice winner shortly thereafter. I recall people saying I'm picking X or Y because their sire got sold overseas.

Tomorrow is the Hopeful and Del Mar Futurity for colts. The Hopeful has three by freshmen: Ampersand (Speightster), Reinvestment Risk (Upstart), and Nutsie (Exaggerator). The Futurity has one: Weston (Hit it a Bomb).

Well this came out of the blue. Foals aren't on the ground yet. They seemed so high and proud of this horse. If I was a breeder I would never buy a lifetime breeing right.

He only covered 57 mares... perhaps he covered less than theyd been planning on or hoping for? As you said they seemed quite high on him, so perhaps they found other breeders just didn't share that interest?

In 2019, not a single Maryland-based stallion covered more than 90 mares. The most was 89 for Golden Lad (interesting), second was freshman Irish War Cry (83), and third was Great Notion (76). Because of this, I'm not sure what exactly they realistically expected of him. I think 57 mares for a freshman stallion in Maryland is probably pretty good, from the outside looking in at least...You've also gotta factor in the fact the FTP was a turf horse, and even though there's never been a better time to be a turf horse or turf stud in North America, dirt is still king.

Violence gets his third G1 winner stateside this year (and fourth overall) this year as Dr. Schivel holds off Spielberg to win the Del Mar Futurity.

TDN did a video on him recently where Sikura said he made the decision to drop his stud fee by about half because while Violence had cooled off and did not have the high numbers others did, he knew better bred crops were coming and he wanted to keep breeders loyal via a smaller price. Looks like it's paying off, and between No Parole, Volatile, and Dr. Schivel he might end up with a BC winner this year.

Yeah I thought I remembered A.P. Five Hundred but then I realized I was probably thinking of Indy Five Hundred, who is a filly. This is what fascinates me about horse racing, when horses that I've never heard of before or forgot about just show up in pedigrees. Both of those stallions had little opportunity as well. A.P. Five Hundred sired 9 foals in the US before being exported. Mining for Money sired 29 foals. Yet their daughters still produced G1SWs.

Re Force the Pass--what happens to holders of a lifetime breeding right if the stallion is basically made inaccessible? Are you just sh** out of luck?
