In case anyone was wondering what that strong breeze just was, I think it was Charlie Appleby breathing a sigh of relief.
Pinatubo wins the G1 Prix Jean Prat over 7f at Deauville, Lope Y Fernandez a length back in 2nd.

I wonder if it was the cut back to 7 furlongs that made the difference?

Had to help. Though it was still a strong enough G1, there were no Kamekos, Palace Piers, or Wichitas to put up with, which could have made the difference. I am guessing it’s Sussex Stakes next, much like Too Darn Hot.ThreeMustangs wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2020 10:40 amI wonder if it was the cut back to 7 furlongs that made the difference?

Enable to face Magical and Japan in the King George. I'm excited to see this race.

Gosden and O'Brien are the only trainers with entries in the race, which is kind of meh, but it's always a treat to see Enable out.Flanders wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 11:46 am Enable to face Magical and Japan in the King George. I'm excited to see this race.

Magical is apparently a beast this year, Sovereign looks like he will benefit big time from his last run, Sir Dragonet is content to cross the line 2nd, Japan hasn't been able to beat Enable yet and frankly hasn't improved much this year, but Lord North is definitely on the improve... on paper, Enable should win, but it's a pretty decent (though not very diverse) field full of improvers, while I'm not sure how much improvement a 6 year old mare can find. Will be interesting for sure.

Fanny Logan (who won nicely at Royal Ascot over 12f) is the other Gosden entrant, not Lord North.

Yes she does go to the Tattersalls Gold Cup. It makes the race not as exciting now, I was really looking forward to them racing against each other.
Enable will face 3 other runners in the King George, Japan, Anthony Van Dyck and Sovereign.

Japan and Anthony Van Dyck are pretty exposed at this point when it comes to matching up against Enable, but Sovereign looks like he's on the improve.
I mean, they're all nice horses and are here on merit, but if Enable can't win then I think we may be in trouble.

Alligator Blood has been disqualified from his Magic Millions win after a post-race swab found traces of a medication that is prohibited to use on male horses.... It's a medication given to female horses to keep them from coming into heat and if they're pregnant to help prevent aborting the foal. Why would you give this to a boy?

As a person who has given not regumate, but a similar hormone drug called Depo Provera, to geldings, it can almost be a miracle drug for spookiness. It's no longer legal for geldings to get it in Canadian competition, but it can be like night and day for some geldings who didn't get the shot again once their final one wore off.
Some are spooky at jumps or other horses or random scenery near the competition ring and can lose focus. Rather than lunge the pants off of them to tire them out, a shot of Depo (which lasts a couple months), or dose of regumate, (which is usually given orally via syringe and daily during estrus - women just have to be careful that it doesn't come in contact with their skin as it can affect their own cycle) can just take the edge off and mellow them out. If horses are spooky and spinning or rearing at other horses, plastic bags in the wind, water trucks, suspicious looking hedges, etc. they can be downright dangerous to deal with.

Is Alligator Blood the skittish sort? I'm afraid I'm not too familiar with him.Northport wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 3:06 pm As a person who has given not regumate, but a similar hormone drug called Depo Provera, to geldings, it can almost be a miracle drug for spookiness. I only know that he's fast and really popular with fans... besides that I'm not too tuned in to Australian racing. He must be hard to handle if they knowingly gave him Regumate, since I'm not seeing accidental contamination as part of his connections' defence - just them claiming that there should be "wiggle room" errrrr that's not how drug violations work.Starine wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 10:58 pmIs Alligator Blood the skittish sort? Anthony Van Dyck is now a non-runner, so the King George field is now down to three.
