That apple did not fall far from the tree! Thanks, Tachyon.
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

Son Monarch of Egypt is entered to run in the G1 Irish 2,000 Guineas tomorrow at the Curragh. It will be his first race since finishing fifth behind Pinatubo in the G1 Dewhurst last October. He is currently at odds of 20-1.

He is also entered in the G1 Ascot Commonwealth Cup next Friday at Royal Ascot.

Daughter Elfin Queen has so far been entered in the G1 Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh this Saturday, the G2 Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot next Tuesday, and the G1 Pretty Polly Stakes on June 28. It will be interesting what race she actually gets in the gate for. She is also entered in the G1 Irish Oaks in July.

It would be interesting if they shipped him over early to get a race in over here (provided they actually want to go to the Derby).

Wouldn't that name be protected under copyright? I know the Jockey Club in the States would likely ding it, but I guess not in Australia?

Some groups aren't as militant about copyright as others (like Disney) and it's possible they asked SEGA and they OK'd it.

There have been horses in the US named after Pokemon, and there is actually a Canadian gelding named "Touch of Disney" because he has a perfect Mickey Mouse silhouette on his muzzle. In some cases, companies don't bother will "small-fry" copyright infringement (which I think a breeder naming their horse "Pikachu Princess" and 'Our Rapidash" probably qualifies as) because they, well, have bigger fish to fry in that department.

The thing as well with Copyright infringement, is that most companies don't care unless you stand to make money directly from using their intellectual property, or the use of their intellectual property could hurt their reputation or mislead people into association. Disney even just recently issued a statement that they were putting out a blanket license for all fanmade content and thus giving permission for all fanfiction authors, fanartists etc. to use their IP but on the flipside also including the notion that if you write a story for Star Wars, for instance, and Disney+ puts out a series with a similar plot, Disney cannot be accused of plagiarism.

When it comes to horses, you'd have to somehow demonstrate that using someone else's IP to name that horse either benefitted the connections financially, or hurt the IP holder's image, reputation or mislead people into believing there was an association there.

In other news, Cafe Pharoah training at Miho, really looks a lot like his sire right down to the tiny bit of white on the forehead!
