Am I not seeing what you saw Blind Lucky? It says they need $2100 by tomorrow to claim him but they didn't have it as of last night.BlindLucky wrote:Apparently he's now retired and is being evaluated. Not sure where to post this, but a colleague of mine was showing me a horse a relative of hers is buying. It turned out to be an ex-racer named Prom Queen, by Discreet Cat. If anyone knew that horse was on the market, or was worried about her, she's going to a good home.

Glad to hear of every one that successfully made a transition into a second career. Thanks for letting us know!Oldowan wrote:Not sure where to post this, but a colleague of mine was showing me a horse a relative of hers is buying. Thisis 5yo Lincoln Launch. Another Los Al special. He ran on Jan. 3, and apparently came out of the race with a knee fracture. This morning Jenny Earhart got a call (not sure from whom) that he was bound for the feedlot this afternoon, but she could have him if she got to the track first. She did.

He's a very lucky boy. And somebody was trying to look out for him.second_glance wrote:Thisis 5yo Lincoln Launch. Another Los Al special. I'm so glad he's safe. Had a guardian angel watching out for him.

Yesterday was 5yo Veruca Salt's lucky day. Two RMR volunteers found her at a TX auction. Intense fundraising by RMR made possible her purchase from a meat buyer. She last ran at Sam Houston on 2/7. Trainer admits taking her to the auction, but said he didn't think KBs would be there. Sure.

Not much of a liar even. Let me guess, nothing will happen to him because after all it was an "honest mistake"? I think the only mistake was he didn't figure to get caught.second_glance wrote:Yesterday was 5yo Veruca Salt's lucky day. Two RMR volunteers found her at a TX auction. Hopefully RMR will be able transition this girl to a career more suited to her. and hopefully a few days at RMR will see this mare start to perk up a bit.

Not at all sure Sam Houston has an anti-slaughter policy. Also: As I understand it, at almost any auction, the seller can set a reserve. So if you really care about where that horse goes, you can set a reserve above what KBs are currently paying (and, really, all you have to do is ask around at the auction site to figure out what that price is). Admittedly, that's a little more complicated where charros might be involved.Catalina wrote:Not much of a liar even. You can also, at most auctions, ask that your horse be ridden through. More chance that there will be other bidders.

Some good news for Texas TBs. A Texas division of CANTER is starting up. Right now, this will only be a listing service, as many CANTER groups are: photos and blurbs about horses that trainers/owners are interested in getting off track. But that's important since LOPE is no longer doing listings. You can help by contributing a few bucks to the startup fundraiser: http://www.youcaring.com/nonprofits/can ... ser/140671

Sam Houston does have a no-tolerance policy on sending horses to kill auctions. So Donna Keen is taking them her evidence.
