Interesting. Are there studs in Hong Kong at all?

Yulong Investments stands Grunt in Australia and will stand Alabama Express there when he retires.

I don't think there is physically enough space for a stud in Hong Kong. Most of their racehorses are geldings and when the top ones do retire, they seem to go to Australia. The last stallion I remember who raced in Hong Kong who retired to stud (in Australia) was Akeed Mofeed. He stood at his owner's farm, Goldin Farm, then moved to Swettenham Stud last year.

They don't breed horse in Hong Kong because as Northport said, it is a space issue but also that the area just isn't flat enough to farm. There is only 2.7 square miles of farm lands in Hong Kong, which is used for small farms, as a comparison, Claiborne Farm is 4.68 square miles.
Hong Kong imports their horses from all over the world and usually renames them. Its rare for a Hong Kong based horse to remain intact.

In news you don't see every day, 3 year old Godolphin gelding Chenier (Medaglia D'Oro X Zydeco, by Zabeel) has been sold to Hong Kong in a "seven figure deal"

Racing.com has an article, it also mentions that former Aidan O'Brien trainee Yucatan has joined Joseph's stable, after an unsuccessful stint down under with Liam Howley.

Favorite Victor Ludorum wins the French 2000 Guineas at Deauville for Godolphin and Fabre. He was one of three G1-winning juveniles for Shamardal last year.

We recently had a short discussion about racing and breeding in mainland China and Hong Kong, seen above. While digging through Australian stallion roster archives and the like I have come across three breeding stallions that were "exported to China." Apparently there is some form of breeding in China.

One is Wicked Style (Macho Uno), who won the Breeders' Futurity in the US.

That was impressive. The rider never moved. It would be nice to see a non-ND/non-Mr. P sire have a star in the making. Plus, Xaario has A.P. Indy and Alysheba way back in his pedigree.

The Coronation Cup (G1) is tomorrow at Newmarket with a very nice field:

“This is a true clash of the titans. The race, rescheduled from Epsom, has attracted a quality field including Stradivarius, who drops back in trip, Derby hero Anthony Van Dyck, Ghaiyyath and last year's winner Defoe.”

So excited for this race! Really curious to see how Strad does dropping back in trip.

My heart says Stradivarius but my brain says Defoe.

Ten years ago they announced a thoroughbred racing track that was backed by Dubai investors, it was supposed to be grand on the level of Meydan and the initial cost to build was $2.6 billion, it never happened. Betting on horse racing is banned in mainland China and they only hold a few informal races throughout the year. This was an image of the proposed track that was going to be called Tianjin Horse City.

Ghaiyyath wins the Coronation Cup, ran them off their feet early and held them at bay. Anthony Van Dyck 2nd, Stradivarius 3rd.
