Lady Sheila Stable
1 hr ·
It is with a heavy heart that Lady Sheila Stable must announce the passing of La Verdad. The eclipse award winning champion gave birth to a healthy colt by Into Mischief on Monday, May 4th. After a few days of medical attention, she was humanely relieved of her distress this afternoon. She passed from complications due to colic.
It is always difficult to lose a horse. Whether a beloved backyard pet or a professional investment or in this case, an accomplished athlete and famous personality. La Verdad was not only a racehorse. She was a symbol. She represented women in racing. As a mare. As a horse trained by Linda Rice and owned by Sheila Rosenblum. And she represented our state and our tracks, as a NY bred never hesitating in the face of competition.
Sheila, understandably, is not able to discuss this loss at any length right now. “It is very difficult for me to talk about. I am speechless.”
La Verdad took Sheila on a whirlwind of an adventure as an owner. From the victories to the eclipse award to being the reason she began breeding horses, this mare has shown Sheila more areas of the thoroughbred industry than most owners get to see. And all in a positive light. Her legacy lives on in four foals- three fillies and the recent colt. But while they embody the strength and spirit of their mother, they will never have that special connection to her human partner.
“She was more than my Champion mare, who was full of class. She was more than a horse to me! I loved her.” And sadly, on this Mother’s Day, it was one mother saying goodbye to another. To an old friend and faithful partner. “I am broken hearted.”

That's really too bad. She was one of my favourite horses to follow while she was racing, and through her foal patrol coverage two years ago, it was clear that she was precious to her owner and caregivers.

She has an export on file. No idea where she's headed, but hopefully to Galileo. I don't see a 2020 live foal OR no foal report for her.

I definitely wouldn't complain about any of them, just Galileo is the oldest.ThreeMustangs wrote: ↑Tue May 12, 2020 8:27 amDubawi, Sea The Stars, or Frankel would be nice, too.

According to JC, yes. But that info doesn't always get updated promptly, or at all.

Got confirmed she is being bred to Galileo. Wonder of his percentage in stopping the mares if the fertility is still strong or droppingFlanders wrote: ↑Tue May 12, 2020 11:33 amHer export is pending because of 3 issues. But the one made it sound like she was exported in foal.

He covered 156 mares last year so he had to still be doing good then.FlyToTheStars wrote: ↑Fri May 15, 2020 8:51 amGot confirmed she is being bred to Galileo. Wonder of his percentage in stopping the mares if the fertility is still strong or dropping

Royal Ascot winner Shang Shang Shang was sold at Tattersalls for 235,000 guineas (US$319,337) and Late Night Pow Wow has been retired and bred to Into Mischief.

If anyone is interested my random studbook searching just came across a mare called Stopshoppingmaria (USA) (More Than Ready) now at Coolmore Australia (i/f to Justify). I feel like she is a significant one but I dont know!
Ask me any questions you have about New Zealand and Australia racing

Stopshoppingmaria is Breeders' Cup placed and the dam of a G2 winner and stakes winner. She was owned while racing by the same connections as Stopchargingmaria. The names make you think they are related but they aren't lol.
