Me neither. With so many good stallions not getting any younger, they go with Bolt?TapitsGal wrote: ↑Tue Mar 24, 2020 4:50 pmStill not a fan of this matingFlanders wrote: ↑Tue Mar 24, 2020 9:49 am Beholder has checked in foal to Bolt d'Oro.

No matter who Beholder is bred to it's going to generate excitement, thus generate excitement for Bolt d'Oro. Still absolutely not the stallion I would have gone with, but that's the only angle I can kinda understand. I assume they wanted one foal from one of his first crops to be really exciting, like with the Songbird/Arrogate foal or the American Pharoah/Leslie's Lady foal.starrydreamer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 1:24 pmMe neither. I would have skipped the breeding based on the results of the MDO/Leslie's Lady mating. They still haven't named the colt and he is 3.
They did send Beholder to top stallions the first 3 years, so I guess it makes sense to support a young farm stallion but I would have picked someone else like Omaha Beach. I just don't ever remember being excited about Bolt d'Oro so I may be biased against him.

Yeah, the marketing angle is the only reason I can think, plus he must complement Beholder physically. I don't think I was ever excited by Bolt d'Oro when he was racing, either, which definitely part of my bias. But at least he's well-bred - his dam side is full of nice Claiborne mares.KatieK101 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 2:36 pmNo matter who Beholder is bred to it's going to generate excitement, thus generate excitement for Bolt d'Oro. And from the marketing standpoint I have to give them props; Spendthrift has been doing really great with their marketing lately, especially on Twitter. But even so, I don't think I would send Beholder to an unproven stallion for that angle alone... although, like someone already said, they have sent her to three proven stallions.starrydreamer wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 11:06 amYeah, the marketing angle is the only reason I can think, plus he must complement Beholder physically. Obviously it's early, but I wonder who they'll send her to next? A proven stallion, or a young one?

I hope they'll send her to a PotN son. I am so sad we will never get a PotN x Beholder foal, as I recall the nick with PotN had a rather high rating... and now with Empire Maker also gone.

American Pharoah?
I hope they also try RtR again with him and they also do that with Stellar Wind.

Yes.
I believe they initially sent her to Pharoah within the last two years but she didn't catch, so instead of trying again they sent her to Curlin or Uncle Mo.
