I mean, in humans they highly suggest not (intentionally) getting pregnant for 18 months after a c-section. I would assume it is just as invasive in a mare. The uterus is scarred and future pregnancy can 1) difficult to get pregnant to start with 2) puts pressure on that scar tissue within the uterus as the pregnancy advances.Summer Bird wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 12:44 amI was always wondering about that so I’m glad to hear it! The risks are slightly higher, but not overly so, assuming she recovers well. I wouldn't breed her this year, but if she were mine and recovered really well, I'd breed her again in the future. Now we don't know exactly what happened that caused them to go to c section, so that could be something that would preclude her from being bred again.
Again, I'm no equine vet but I imagine a mare uterus is just as susceptible. I think if I had such a mare, I'd probably skip a year to be safe assuming no other underlying issues.
