Marcus Hersh sums up the maiden-breaking win by Juulstone :
March 7, race 1, Gulfstream Park, MdSpWt43k

Beyer: 81

1 1/8 miles, turf firm, 1:48.85

b. c. 3, American Pharoah–Hessonite, by Freud

Not your typical fifth-start maiden winner. They gave him three tries on dirt, and he got progressively worse, but a move to turf woke him up. RNA’s for nearly $500K as a yearling, so there have been hopes, and yes, he can run. Wears blinkers now and traveled smartly throughout, waiting patiently for a hole and bursting through with a nice turn of foot when it opened in upper stretch. Galloped out like a house afire. Will stay 10f at least, you’d think.

The gallop-out really was monstrous.

High knee action reminded me of Barbaro, who began on turf. Certainly a promising turn of foot.
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

I love the way he moves and he seemed to get better after he crossed the wire. He really may be something special.

Mystic Guide (Ghostzapper/Music Note) broke his maiden at FG and became a TDN Rising Star. IIRC, Darley bred a lot of their A.P. Indy mares to GZ in 2016, so this guy might be the best they got from that cross in their 2017 crop.

Wells Bayou (Lookin at Lucky - Whispering Angel, by Hard Spun) won the Louisiana Derby(G2). His 2nd dam is a 1/2(really 3/4) sister to Mien, the dam of Big Brown.

Bonny South (Munnings - Touch The Star, by Tapit) won the Fairground Oaks(G2). Her 2nd dam is Willstar, 3rd dam Nijinsky Star, 4th dam Chris Evert. Lots of G1 winners in this family.
