So if that race was run April 5th, I’m assuming Japan has opened up the race tracks again to fans. Looking at the last photo lots of people around in the foreground and if you enlarge the picture quit a crowd in the background.

As far as I have seen, JRA has *not* reopened tracks to the general public. However, the ownership groups can be quite extensive... I was surprised at the number of people I saw, too.

Its actually quite amazing. If you do a truenicks of Sunday Silence/sons/grandsons over Sunday Silence/sons/grandson line mares its never been done. If that was US/Europe you know it'd be tried like 3000 times.

I thought this could be an interesting topic.
There can be several reasons.
I suspect that the massive inflows of quality broodmares from abroad after the passing of Sunday Silence in 2002 made Japanese top breeders reluctant to try inbreeding to that great stallion in close patters like 2 x 3 or 3 x 3.
It also looks like they were not big fans of in inbreeding from way back.
But it becomes easier to try 3 x 4 or 4 x 4 as time goes by.
I believe that Daring Tact's success is just the beginning.

That's very plausible; thank you for the explanation!tachyon wrote: ↑Fri Apr 17, 2020 9:32 pm I suspect that the massive inflows of quality broodmares from abroad after the passing of Sunday Silence in 2002 made Japanese top breeders reluctant to try inbreeding to that great stallion in close patters like 2 x 3 or 3 x 3.

LOL @ your sentence that I bolded, because it is true. Look at what Great Britain and Ireland do with Sadler's Wells and Danzig lines in particular. The breeding programs do produce some magnificent runners but at the same time I think the studs are finally realizing they have to branch out. Hopefully Study of Man and Saxon Warrior are just the beginning.Flanders wrote: ↑Fri Apr 17, 2020 7:14 pmIts actually quite amazing. Interesting side note in that article was the mention that Sunday Silence officially died of heart failure after receiving a large dose of painkiller. I knew that laminitis had been his downfall, but the phrasing of that bit about the painkiller was something that I hadn't heard before.Starine wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2020 9:21 pm Bloodlines Presented By Mill Ridge Farm: The Global Reach Of Contrail’s Japanese Pedigree
