@Tachyon and @Lurkey McLurker, thought you'd both enjoy this photo of Chrome and his entourage at Arrow Stud. I think the photo was taken March 2nd or 3rd Japan local dates. He's looking really good and started covering mares March 1. (I'm not quite sure how to express the dates, because Japan is a day ahead of us in the United States.)

If you think how horses live in the wild, it's a no brainer and I'm surprised such an experienced farm needed an expert on that.

The more he is around other stallions, the more pent up aggression he has. Think about dogs for example that are separated by a fence constantly, they get more and more aggressive, they can't get to the other dog and it builds up and up. Horses are not stupid and he sees other stallions walking to the breeding shed. Smells the mares in heat... in the wild that would never happen. Keep him away from other stallions, but let him be in contact with other horses at least next to his pasture. Either mares that are not in heat or ideally geldings. And exercise him (doesn't have to be ridden, can do some groundwork, build up a relationship apart from the usual walk to the paddock and to the shed), let his brain work for a bit, focus on something else. That will also work in their favor when he is breeding and they will have an easier time handling him.

I even would go so far to say that he attacked people not because of sheer aggression, but frustration. I know most stallions are fine with the way things are, but there are some where their instincts take over. Can't blame the horse, that's mostly a human issue. Age has nothing to do with it. The amount of breeding doesn't either, although I do think that with how tight the schedule is, it leaves very little room for else, so ideally they would limit his book in a way that allows a bit of daily exercise and not only breeding. Then I don't see an issue with shuttling him either. As long as they follow that program.

No Information yet of the cause. He was only 14.

I don't have a link, but on FB I saw a post on FB about Arazi at 31. He's in Australia (who knew?) at Stockwell, which stands Artie Schiller currently. I know commentators still speak of "an Arazi-like run."

ETA Was this already posted and I missed it--the reference to Belong to Me as "also 31" made me wonder but I went back a couple of days and didn't see it. Sorry if it's a duplicate.

What a final crop by Scat Daddy! He had four colts run in the 2018 Kentucky Derby, including a Triple Crown winner in Justify; a Breeder’s Cup champion in Mendelssohn; and now Combatant wins the G1 Santa Anita Handicap.

Flameaway was the fourth colt. He’s won a listed stakes since the Derby, but was already a multiple graded stakes winner going into it.
