Terrible days racing in the UK today.

Alsa Mix euthanised after a fall at Ascot
Kachy (a brilliant all weather sprinter) euthanised at Lingfield
Cyrname, the brilliant highest rated chaser in the UK fell badly in the Ascot chase and it doesn’t look good at all...

I do wonder if the weather conditions had something to do with it, it’s extremely testing ground and the wind is very strong. Of course these things happen unfortunately but 3 in one day seems unusual. (Edit: Thank God it’s not actually 3!)

ETA: literally as I was about to post this, they showed Cyrname getting up, he’s going home thank God!

I’m so glad Cyrname is okay, but why did his rider take him over the last fence when he was so far behind? Why not just pull him up?

I’m so glad Cyrname is okay, but why did his rider take him over the last fence when he was so far behind? Why not just pull him up?

I suppose with only 4 horses in the field he was bound to pick up place money if he finished. But of course the horse’s health and safety should always come first.

Just announced that Enable is done for 2019, but is coming back in 2020, depending on her health and happiness.

Anyone reckon that Enable might be retired in time to catch the breeding season? I know she has primarily done a lot of her running in the fall but there's no guarantee of racing at all this year.

That's funny but how is the digestion system of an herbivore going to handle meat lol? I know horses have been known to accidentally eat bugs and tiny mice while grazing but still.

I had a cat that loved pudding and spinnach once. She somehow knew when my mom was washing leaves for sauteing and would try desperately to grab one out of the colander. We would have to put her in my room.

Herbivores will eat meat given the opportunity, they just can't catch it themselves. They shouldn't eat it all the time because it can cause problems, but eating it sometimes wont hurt them. There have been lots of incidents of herbivores eating meat so I guess they must be able to digest it at some level. I remember reading a story of a horse that had a pasture along side a road. A goat got hit by a car and its body ended up near the fence and well, the horse took the opportunity given to it.

I got the impression from the article that the mare has quite the bad temper and is difficult to handle at the gate. I've read that high-protein grain diets can really ramp up a horse's energy, creating a horse who can be a handful to handle.
Maybe Nettoyer's trainer should cut back on all her high protein/high fat snacks?

If Royal Ascot is actually held, I wonder if the Queen will attend? Although she is now residing at Windsor Castle (social distancing royal style ), it's hard to imagine that the traditional Royal Procession would be allowed, even if they run the meet.

They've been trying to build it up for a couple years now. There used to be a 1 or 2 day meet in the Spring, almost immediately after the Dubai World Cup Carnival, arrange by the same folks who run Meydan and they would ship in Dubai based horses for the meet. Not sure what ever happened to that.

A couple years ago, one Chinese businessman, I believe Zhang Yuesheng of Yulong Investments, bought upwards of 75 horses in Ireland and sent them to Mainland China to be trained. He owns top class horses in England, Ireland, and Australia, but he owns a track in mainland China and was able to secure a lot of horses on the lower end of the sale spectrum who may never be competitive in Ireland or England but have a shot in China.
