A Racing Post article that's behind a paywall (so I can't read) asks the question "Is it really possible to predict which flat stallions will be successful?" in the title. They're referring to turf sires of course but that also applies to dirt over here.
I don't think you really can. You also have to take in consideration what equates to success, as what is considered a successful stallion career varies from person to person. It's an interesting discussion.

So, after looking at tons of stallions photos popping up on twitter as the open houses are ongoing, I have to say that Justify must have crappy feet to still be shod in front. I am not sure I have seen another stallion with shoes on.

The late Lucky Pulpit did very well today.
Fashionably Fast won the California Cup Sprint.
Ward 'n Jerry and Cono finished second and third in the Unusual Heat Turf Classic.
Sacred Rider was third in the California Cup Derby.

It pretty much means he is prone to cracks, bruises or abscesses. He had a hoof bruise after the Kentucky Derby, I think.CorridorZ75 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 7:33 pm So, after looking at tons of stallions photos popping up on twitter as the open houses are ongoing, I have to say that Justify must have crappy feet to still be shod in front. War Front wears special shoes on his front. If you go to Claiborne's webpage and watch War Front's commercial you can see them.

Wound Tight, a 5 y/o son of Coil, won the Unusual Heat Turf Classic in gate-to-wire fashion.Flanders wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 4:20 amHe never sired a stakes winner. I'd so hoped he would be that successful sire son that Point Given hasn't had. I wonder if they've completely given up on him and he'll be gelded, or if they'll wait and see if someone wants a breeding in the future?

From my understanding Lucky Pulpit was a sire of many winners but before Chrome wasn't really a stakes producer.
It's a shame he passed away. These stakes horses are probably coming from his best bred crops.

Well to put it succinctly, yes. However, the fact he died of a rare immune disorder that the article did not really expand on is troubling to me in an industry where he was being bred to "improve the breed".

Very, very quietly, Call Me George down in Louisiana had 2 winners out of only 3 runners in his first crop. Maybe he deserves a few more mares at $1000.Mylute wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2020 6:26 pmWound Tight, a 5 y/o son of Coil, won the Unusual Heat Turf Classic in gate-to-wire fashion.Flanders wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 4:20 amHe never sired a stakes winner. Ugh, my heart. I'm so glad AP is off to a great start as a sire and we have Classic Empire, Midnight Storm, and Cairo Prince to look forward to. His post-Japan crops were doing so well, too...honneerider wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2020 12:46 pm RiP Empire Maker.
