Read today that they are pointing him to the Pegasus World Cup Turf at the end of January.

That's what I was hoping. Fingers crossed he does good enough in this race so he can go to the Pegasus.

Did they mention anything about LUCULLAN? Same trainer. Wondering if LUCULLAN is aiming for the Dubai races over the next few months since he's owned by Godolphin. He last worked about 1 month ago which makes me wonder if he's already been shipped there. Just a hunch.

Yes, Lucullan also pointing to the Pegasus Turf. Here is the article. Sorry I didn't post it earlier.

Spun To Run being considered for the Pegasus World Cup! He had an awesome work this morning. Apparently he's not tired.

The article at this link includes a link to a video of Spun To Run's breeze and gallop out 12/27. 35.3, 47.4, 1:00 to mile pole, gallop out on own all the way to the 3/8ths for full ten furlongs

Thank you, Happy Endings. This is a surprise, as I thought he was taking a break. Sounds like he really likes Florida per the article. I bet the removal of the entry fee has helped the connections make the decision to point to the Pegasus. Plus, of course, the fact that Spun to Run is doing well. Now that Max Security is pointing to Dubai, the race is wide open. Big purse to pass up for a wide open race.

Omaha Beach is also pointing to the Pegasus. Question in my mind whether STR can prevail at 1 1/8 miles, though. I would feel more confident if the race were 1 mile. STR was all out to beat Grey Magician at 1 1/16 miles, though that was just his second race back from the 4 month layoff. Hard Spun did well at 1 1/8 miles. Soooo. Fingers crossed.

EDIT to add that Grey Magician finished well back in the San Antonio, today. He acted up in the gate before the break, also.

Appears A Thread Of Blue has been scratched from the Tropical Park Derby today. He had drawn the 14 post position, and wide posts have a low win percentage at Gulfstream. That may have factored. Also the Pegasus Turf is only 4 weeks away and if they are serious about that race, that would be a quick turnaround for this horse.

Turf is "Good". He prefers firmer turf and trainer has mentioned this before. 3 times he ran on softer turf and these are his lowest numbers. Likely he was scratched due to this. The winner was from post 13.

Here's a comment from his trainer a few months ago(about a diff race which he didn't do so well)

It rained the day before the Jockey Club Derby. We were unlucky because he likes it firm," McLaughlin said

Okay. I do remember reading that he prefers a firm ground. And you are right the turf was not firm today. I had not connected those dots.

Mike Smith said a few words about Hard Not To Love. As many already know, she only has one eye. He said that she is plagued by anxiety attacks. I guess because of all the activity around her and she can't see it all, poor thing. He said John Sheriffs has to work a lot with her and at times she refuses to warm up. She overcame a heck of a lot to run like she did from dead last to win that race. Her 4th win in 5 races. And a G1 at that. I was discouraged when I saw how far back she was early and then when she circled the entire field on the turn I thought, "Oh, too wide!", but then she just kept on coming. So happy for all her connections, considering all the extra effort they have to put into working with her on account of her missing eye. Wow. This has been a very good year for Hard Spun.

Oh, yes, of course. I was too focused on the dirt ones. Thanks!

102 Beyer for Hard Not To Love's win in La Brea stakes yesterday. She is Hard Spun's 3rd runner with a triple digit Beyer this year. Did you see her gallop out?!!

Wonder what's next for A Thread of Blue now that he missed a race. Wonder if they'll still point to the Pegasus Turf in 4 weeks. That's a long layoff for such a big race. His last race was 10/5. Looking at his PP, he ran very well ~60 days between races.

I doubt those plans change. Before the scratch, trainer had commented that it would be a quick turn-around between the two races. Implication being that quick turn-around not the best scenario for him. So now that is not an issue.

Major accomplishment for Hard Spun getting 3 G1-winning 3yos on dirt this year> https://twitter.com/theTDN/status/12117 ... 03425?s=20

2019 has been his best year since 2012 when he had Questing and Zo Impressive winning G1 races on the dirt. There were 3 G1 wins between them, but still only 2 G1 winners. And Questing got the Eclipse for 3yo filly. Also, I can't remember any year when he had a graded winning 2yo like Green Light Go. Am I overlooking someone? That slower to mature nature of his offspring is what I think has held him back from being a higher priced stallion. He had 29 stakes winners (maybe more, I forget now) in his first crop but many of those were 4yo and older by the time they did that. At the time they said no other stallion before him had ever gotten that many stakes winners in their first crop.

His 2020 stud fee is a steal. Wonder if he's fully booked.
