A few years ago, another stallion was slaughtered for meat. The article at the time said the stallion was very nice so wasn't aggressive when the person(people) went into his field at night. I feel bad for not being able to remember his name.... I *think* he was a Giant's Causeway son but I may be wrong. I'm pretty sure it was somewhere in South America too but not being able to remember his name is really hampering my searching.

Wow it didn't feel like 10 years ago... No wonder I was having a hard time finding anything, thank you for finding his name. They specifically went after the stallion at that farm too. The two farms also are pretty close together I'm guessing 15-20 minute drive, going off the towns they have listed.

Hungry, desperate people do desperate things but this is something I would expect to happen to a stud farm in Venezuela.

Again this was really...daring. I feel like someone who was doing this to feed a family wouldn't do something so public. They would try to steal/lure away a random horse from a pasture.

We don't know the killers motives so we can only speculate. My guesses are it was deemed a payback or a hit but they did it in this fashion to really throw the authorities off the trail, a rival taking out the vast majority of their competitors stallions or its some group thinking the meat is a panacea that a well bred, well fed stallion has some miracle curing properties, kind of like how they eat tiger genitals and rhino horns, etc.

Amongst the top stallions (Tapit, War Front, Medaglia d’Oro, Curlin, Uncle Mo, etc) who do you think constantly gets *the* best books? I would think War Front, but lately it seems like Into Mischief is getting some really stellar mares. And AP had his fantastic first book and I wonder if the quality stayed the same?

I think its fluctuates a lot year to year and also depends on who the mare has already visited, some breeders do not like to go to the same stallion over and over again. While Into Mischief does get a lot of really nice mares he also breeds nearly 2-3x as many as some of the stallions you mentioned, so that can lead to the overall quality of his book to be lower. It took me like 20 minutes to find the article but there is one out about 2019 quality, though it only lists G1SWs and G1 producers in the stallions books.

I purposefully used War Front vs Into Mischief here because War Front has the lowest mares bred and Into Mischief has the highest. In 2019, War Front covered 81 mares, 12 of which were G1SWs (14.8% of his book) and 10 G1 producers (12.3% of his book). While Into Mischief covered 241 mares, 14 G1SWs (5.8% of his book) and 5 G1 producers (2% of his book).

Of established stallions, Curlin, MDO, Quality Road, Tapit, Uncle Mo, War Front had fairly comparable numbers. Though Justify was far and away the leader of the 2019 books. AP's book was still strong for a stallion who hadn't had runners at that point.

I think we'll see these stallions all getting about even splits year to year if they continue to produce how they do. I would have to imagine some breeders shy from Into Mischief and go to a limited book stallion because a limited book means less competition at the sales from foals by the same sire.

People here are devastated with this. Here we take care of a little we have, but there are always undesirable people who harm us. Peru has only 600 or 700 foals every year but we won many races of international level.

I found this article really interesting. It has the stallions that had 50%+ of runners in Great Britain and Ireland that achieved a Racing Post Rating of 80+. The article says a RPR of 80 is about what it takes to win a maiden or novice stakes of fair quality. It shows what a mistake it was to give up on Declaration of War. Also it appears Dubawi has gotten a standout stallion in Night of Thunder. Even though his first crop is only 2, he has a incredibly high % of runners with a rating of 80+ and also not mentioned is that he has 7 SWs from his first crop.

It's so tragic. I offer my condolences to you and all Peruvian racing fans for the murder of those beautiful stallions, as well as apparently losing an historic breeding farm.

Rey de Oro (H5 King Kamehameha - La Dorada by Symboli Kris S) is retired from racing and standing at Shadai Stallion Station in Hokkaido.

He won the GⅠ Japanese Derby in 2017 and the GⅠ Tenno Sho in 2018.

His 2nd dam Lady Blond is a half sister to Deep Impact and Black Tide.

The stallions were in their boxes. A truck entered in the farm with 8 criminals, took them out and needed 11 hours to tear them apart and take into the truck. Believe also irresponsability of the owners, poor security suppose. Barlovento brought in 1998 also for shuttling to You And I, cause he is son of peruvian mare La Chaposa. Also Street Hero, Forty Tales, Southern Rhythm, Shuailaan. And in 2016 they were waiting the arrive of Willcox Inn, but the stallion died days before.

Just checked sunset/sunrise in Lima, Peru these days, there's 13 hours of daylight. Perhaps that is what saved the other stallions. . .
