Wow! Heartbreaking. That farm has been snake-bit in the worst way. My sincere sympathies go out to all his connections.RugbyGirl wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2019 3:52 am This is the 3rd stallion they have lost in the past few months from I think 6 that were to stand this year.

I remember watching this video in July about the new stallion barn they had built for the 2019 season
https://www.facebook.com/10032818668449 ... 096472602/
To think that half the occupants are now gone, all in different and tragic ways... it's going to take a while for them to bounce back from that.

What is the end goal here? What's the motive?
If they were kidnapped or held hostage it would be ransom money, but no a guy just stormed the stable and killed them.
....insurance money?

I would guess a beef with the owner of the farm or possibly a political motive- plenty of people in Peru are not a fan of the ultra wealthy and the accessories they tend to acquire.

My heart breaks for the farm...they only stood a total of SIX stallions and now four of the six are dead...will they even be able to bounce back from this?Retrospectiv wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2019 10:55 am Terrible news out of Peru. 4 stallions murdered in their barn, including a half to Justify, The Lieutenant:

I bet a disgruntled former employee did it. Or maybe the farm caught an employee doing something wrong and fired them for it, and this is their retaliation.

What... a bizarre and heartbreaking scenario. I also noticed that Cyrus Alexander was half to Super Saver. Such a loss. Condolences to the connections of the farm, stallions, and the night watchman who was murdered as well.

For those curious, the Haras Barlovento site hasn't been completely updated since last year but I can assume the roster is no different other than The Lieutenant having been there.
The surviving stallions are -
Jaguar On the Run, a maiden son of Storm Cat and champion Sacahuista. Stood in Peru his entire stud life.
Forty Tales, a MGSW son of Tale of the Cat who previously stood in New York. PQ says he was sold to Haras El Catorce in Peru this year but I assume he actually went to Barlovento.

Several articles are saying the 4 stallions were attacked and killed by axes with intention to butcher for meat.

So instead of sneaking into a random pasture and stealing off one random horse to butcher in the woods (for food I assume), they specifically target a stud farm, murder the night guard, and kill four big stallions (1 you can argue has somewhat of a *high profile* as he is technically owned by a USA farm and has famous relations) to butcher?
Was he gonna butcher them in the barn? That's a huge risk to take, as it would take a long time for just one horse. The longer you're there the more likely you'll be caught. Also, gunshots alert people.
And wasn't another "thoroughbred" stallion in Florida stolen from his stable and butchered in the woods nearby recently? So many questions.

There were a bunch of horses killed a couple years ago in South Florida and they had chunks of flesh taken out of them in a manner that looked like they were taken for meat. Almost all were more in the lawn ornament category (pets, family trail horses), though the case of Debbie Stevens' grand prix horse being slaughtered in his stall is still is a bit fishy.

I bring that up because I agree with Mylute... of all the horses to target for meat, a breeding stallion, in a barn, with a watchman in the way, it just seems... off.

It is possible that there was a political motivation. It can be a revenge. Some people think that any revenge against the owner of Kung Fu Mambo motivated all this misfortune. Barlovento is one of the main breeding farms we have in Peru, where the most important horse in our history, Santorin, was born. We are extremely hurt by this terrible loss. I think that Kung Fu Mambo was the best of the four beautiful stallions.

A few years ago, another stallion was slaughtered for meat. The article at the time said the stallion was very nice so wasn't aggressive when the person(people) went into his field at night. I feel bad for not being able to remember his name.... I *think* he was a Giant's Causeway son but I may be wrong. I'm pretty sure it was somewhere in South America too but not being able to remember his name is really hampering my searching.
