Tachyon, that is both very sad and very beautiful. The truly enormous negative reaction to California Chrome's sale is somewhat softened for me by this show of respect the Japanese have for their great horses. I can only hope that Chrome enriches Japanese bloodlines.tachyon wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 10:21 am Tombs of Deep Impact and King Kamehameha have been built at Shadai Stallion Station.

He was sure a looker, wasn't he! No Nasrullah or Nearco = almost no Thoroughbred as we know them today, not only California Chrome.lurkey mclurker wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2019 1:08 am Some cool video of Nashrullah arriving at stud in the US, back in the day...

Nasrullah arriving in America there’d be no #CaliforniaChrome if he hadn’t left his home shores and come to the lower breeding levels of USA from Great Britain. That’s the global nature of this industry and that’s something to be embraced
Comparing those times to now is like comparing apples to oranges. When Nasrullah was sold to Claiborne, England and continental Europe were devastated by WWII. Some horses were sent to the U.S. during the war for safekeeping. Although Nasrullah's sire, Nearco, stayed home, they actually built a bomb shelter for him. Immediately after the war, the U.S. was almost the only developed country that could afford to buy expensive bloodstock. These days we are still a rich country, and countries we helped rebuild after WWII are also rich. Modern transportation makes it much easier to send bloodstock anywhere in the world, so now there is a thriving worldwide equine import/export business. Americans are sending some of our top horses overseas not due to the devastation of war, but due to the sorry state of commercial breeding here.

South Beach (Tapit/Bethan) is listed as having been imported from the United States on the Korean Stud Book website as a stallion. He was imported in October.
The multiple winner was sold for $50K to Century Racing at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale of 2018 as a racing/stallion prospect. He ran his last race in March 2019. His dam, Bethan, is a half-sister to Hard Spun.

He has Runhappy, Competitive Edge, and Embellish the Lace as G1 winners (off the top of my head) but other than them, and Super Steed (G3), I can't think of a lot he's produced in the past couple years.FlyToTheStars wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2019 5:42 pm So that is like the 3rd Derby winner sent abroad in one year? He has consistently gotten books of 100+ with some good mares though, up to this year.

Two more outcrosses for their European mares.CorridorZ75 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2019 5:38 pm So apparently Super Saver and Daredevil off to Turkey according to twitter.
The Turks have bought quite a few new stallions for 2020:
Bluegrass Cat (Storm Cat)
Tizway (Tiznow)
Air Vice Marshal (War Front)
Catapult (Kitten's Joy)
Avery Island (Street Sense)
Bodemeister (Empire Maker)
Myboycharlie (Danetime)
Brutus (Scat Daddy)
Authorized (Montjeu)
Trappe Shot (Tapit)
Super Saver (Maria's Mon)
Daredevil (More than Ready)
And they (mostly Arif Kurtel) have bought many more mares from sales at Keeneland, Goffs and Tattersalls. They are serious about improving their breeding program.

When was it announced that Avery Island was going to Turkey? Also, add Run Away and Hide to the list.
They also recently bought Hemsworth, a G2 winning son of Bernardini whose second dam is half to Vindication.

Om is apparently not retired just yet: he's entered to run in the G2 Seabiscuit on the 30th.

Last week. As with the Bodemeister move it seems to have been first announced in Turkish media. Google translate to the rescue:

(the other 4 stallions being Catapult, Tizway, Bluegrass Cat and Air Vice Marshal)Avery Island is expected to arrive in Istanbul by the end of December by completing the import and quarantine operations before the New Year with the other 4 stallions in Elmendorf Harvest [Farm] under the direction of Murat Sancal in the USA

They send a few to Dubai every year and have placed a few times, most recently with Good Curry finishing 2nd in the G3 Burj Nahaar and Peri Lina finishing 3rd in the Balanchine Stakes this year. No notable winners yet though.
Horses from Turkey don't race in America (and American horses don't run in Turkey's international pattern races) because there is currently a mandatory 30-day quarantine period before they can (re)enter the USA. That is not going to be the case anymore in 2020 so we may see more Turkish owners bringing their best horses over.

He could either be moving, or deceased.
