I wonder if this topic deserves a thread.
Here is the original source -- a statement from JS Company that introduces California Chrome to Arrow Stud, Japan.

Has he been sold to stand over there or is he on a lease like The Factor? Boy the Chromies are about to be very angry

The "Bring Chrome Home" fanatics are going to lose their minds with this one.
Though, honestly, this really is a bummer to see them sell him so soon. He won't even have progeny on the track for another 6-8 months. And after all of the hullabaloo about the Taylors buying into him while he was still racing, this really stinks. It must have been a really good offer, considering he was on the 2020 Taylor Made roster in October

I guess all the people that viciously hated this horse were right about him ending up in Japan.
It could also be a year lease like with The Factor. Wasn't Arrow where The Factor went as well? He got 145 in 2017, 133 in 2018, and 143 mares this year, so it's not like he wasn't popular and people weren't interested.

Kate Hunter said that when The Factor went there on lease it was clearly stated, while there has been nothing said about a lease. Who knows though, it could be a lease maybe the US article will have more information? I wonder how long it will take that to come out, it took forever for them to announce Bodemeister was sold to Turkey. The Factor, Hard Spun, Street Sense, and Thunder Gulch all went to Japan for a year, maybe I'm missing someone else but I remember all those going.

With the way his foals were selling to Japanese buyers recently, I wondered how soon it would be before we saw this news. With him being a G1 winner on turf and dirt, it doesn't surprise me at all that Japan would want him. Best of luck at stud in your new home, handsome! I am confident though that he will get the best of care.

Well I can’t wait to see all the slaughter comments on Taylor Made’s Facebook page when they announce it . He’ll definitely be better supported over there. The article makes it sound as if he's been sold. They state they purchased him. I'm personally not to surprised...but I think I'm going to have to bury my head in the sand and actively ignore the Facebook and comment articles on this one...I may be tempted to slap someone if I don'tSummer Bird wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2019 9:42 am Has he been sold to stand over there or is he on a lease like The Factor? Not reading the comments is self care. It’s too late for me, I’ve already been arguing with someTapitsGal wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2019 10:29 amThe article makes it sound as if he's been sold. This is really strange because last night over supper I was thinking to myself all the ways a broke college kid like me could make it up to Kentucky to see him specifically and some others.
I hope he's the 2020 leading freshman sire.

well I am sorry to see this beautiful boy go - but I am sure they will take great care of him - and I hope he becomes a big star at stud in japan.
chrome was one of the most beautiful looking, and most beautiful moving horses, that I have ever seen here in California - and man, was he shiny! gorgeous animal - I am sure he will make some great new fans in japan who will love him too. (especially when they see him running around his paddock and getting feisy!)
it was a pleasure to watch him run races here over the years and so easy to become a fan of his - clearly, both he and zenyatta did a lot to provide years of happy memories for fans in California - it was the best of racing times (well, in most recent years anyway) - I wish him well always and look forward to hearing great things about his babies.

OMG THEY'RE GOING TO EAT HIM
Seriously, what's the consensus on his yearlings? I've seen some that look good, others -- meh.

Of course they have every right to make this business decision, but after all the "People's Horse" stuff (including getting God knows how many Chromies to pay for "special" status), it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'm just glad my friend (one of those people) and I got to see him last year.
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

Good for the Japanese, but not for our breeding industry, but then again Americans are foolish and impatient and are worried about a quick buck, not the long term. That’s why this Japanese are successful. They are patient and NEVER sell. Read the article on the Yoshida’s. They look on us as fools. And I work for the Japanese.
Let go a stallion who proved successful and sound over several years of racing to keep fragile lightly raced horses like Justify.
This industry is in decline, and people wonder why? What a joke, but then a Taylor Made works closely with WinStar so why am I not surprised.
I’m not a Chrommie just somebody disgusted with American thoroughbred racing.

Oh, they are out with pitchforks on FB. Basically, Taylor Made ruined the whole racing industry with this move because they sold the #1 ambassador of the sport and the horse they all own (because people's horse) to be sushi. Thats the cliffnotes version of FB comments.
