How long has it been "known" that a movie about Frankel is being made?

'Cause Racing Post just reported that Jeremy Irons has been cast as Sir Henry Cecil, and that's the first I've heard of it.

First heard for me and I consider myself a Frankel aficionado. More here:

Like I 100% get that these horses are animals, not humans and they do not comprehend morality or feel a natural disgust towards the things we do (although I am also aware there's some real human "Raid the Cabinets" out there) but like...

How big was he when he was a weanling? Remember RtC was only ten months old, not even a yearling. How was he able to mount the dam? How tall was the dam (she passed recently)? And again no morality but how common is a dam letting her weanling colt breed her? Has anyone heard of this?

And it's not unheard of for two year olds to become sexually mature and get in the family way, but a weanling?

I've never known a breeder to keep a 10-month-old with his dam. He should have been weaned a ways back.

My thoughts exactly.

As an aside, did anyone else find it uncomfortable seeing that little girl there when they were taking about breeding and incest? I know she doesn’t understand those things yet (at least I hope so!) but kids are likely to ask questions about stuff they don’t understand, wouldn’t want to have to explain that to her.

Awesome. I decided I liked him a while back. Google says the name is Japanese and means "long life" or "child of the tortoise" (?).

I know a few. With new findings on behaviour and people seeking to emulate ethological patterns of wild horses people are weaning later. In there have been also occasional instances of observing mares in the wild with a bun in the oven, a foal, a yearling and on rare occasion even a 2 year old still following with all three nursing. Most mares wouldn't allow a foal that old to still nurse but... takes all kinds of kinds I guess.

That being said I don't know anyone this has happened to, late weaning or not.

I can see where a breeder might be inclined to leave the foal with mama longer if the foal was a late bloomer or not developing in the ways they should be, they just need more mama time, but obviously our guy Raid the Cabinet was....not a late bloomer.

Today I learned there's racing in Mauritius.

I also learned that Mauritius exists.

My favorite South African champion mare Igugu had to go through 90 days' quarantine in Mauritius before being shipped to England. ;)
I remember posting that story on this board.
