He was fifth, beaten 9.5 lengths. At least he didn’t finish last this time.
MoE generally makes a good run of it, even if he does fade, which is probably why he'd like a few listed races and G3s to pick up some confidence and hopefully a win.

Hong Kong actually ran and finished a non-threatening second.

12 October (Saturday) - Hong Kong managed to draw into the Limerick race despite being 13th on the alternate list - perhaps the projected Heavy going scared off everyone else? Anyhow, he's now Declared for The Follow Limerick Racecourse On Twitter Maiden - 7 furlongs, race 2 at 2:35pm local time. Breaking from post 9 of 13, trained by Aiden O'Brien and ridden by Donnacha O'Brien.
Hong Kong finished second. He followed the leaders in 3rd, along the outside, with 4th/5th just immediately to his inside, started getting urged around the far turn, and while he did pick up the pace as the pack started its final charge, he was working hard down the stretch head to head and managed to get second by a nose over the third place on his inside.

OK I think I'll stop complaining about Yum! Brands being mentioned every time the Derby is now.
*snicker* yeah. The blahblahblah-presented-by-censored thing came to mind for me, too.

At least these guys aren't tacking it onto a big institution that gets repeated all over the place.

Yay Hong Kong! I hope everything works out with him. I like grays and he has a strong name.

I wonder how he would react to dirt...he's kinda bred for it.

  • 13 October (Sunday) - Prince of Pharoahs - Belmont Park MSW for 2yo, one mile on dirt, additional restricton of foaled in New York. He's starting from gate 4 in race 4, post time 2:57pm. Trained by Linda Rice and ridden by Jose Lezcano. He's owned by his breeder and not put up for auction.
Prince of Pharoahs won! This was his second outing, and he sure seemed to have learned a lot from his first trip, when he ended up 8th of 11. Today he broke well, took the lead briefly, almost immediately had it challenged & briefly taken by a couple of others, and when the dust settled by the quarter pole he was steady with Jack of Clubs as his running mate for the next couple of furlongs, the two of them running almost head to head with Prince of Pharoahs leading. Coming around the far turn, he was urged to give more, and he did, pulling away from the field to finish a good five lengths ahead of the rest.

Nicest thing was this looked like a true hand ride, and a mild one at that.

I think this makes him American Pharoah's 15th or 16th winner. Will have to look that up when I'm back at the "real" computer.

12 October (Saturday) workouts
  • All American Dream - Stonestreet Training LLC/turf - looks like they are alternating her on dirt and turf for logged workouts
  • A.P. Pharoah - Golden Gate/allweather
  • Lipstikliesnlovers - Keeneland/dirt - had been working at The Thoroughbred Center since 6-September
  • Maine - Parx/dirt
  • Princesa Caroline - Belmont Park/dirt
  • Under The Oaks - Saratoga/dirt - This is her first logged workout. She is owned by West Point Thoroughbreds and their website had her as training in Ocala with John Sheriffs. It looks like she is the first registered foal from the Looking At Lucky mare Maybellene, who was 3rd in the G1 Starlet back in 2014 when it was won by Take Charge Brandi, and 1st by DQ (actual finish was 2nd) in the listed Sunland Park Oaks in 2015. Maybellene was owned by Natalie Baffert and trained by Bob, who placed her in the November 2016 breeding stock sale in foal to American Pharoan where she was purchased by Clarkland Farm for $550,000. Clarkland put the yearling filly she produced in 2018 Keeneland Yearling Sale where she was picked up by West Point for $375,000.

Upcoming Races
  • 16 October (Wednesday) - Ocean Atlantique - Maiden at Saint Cloud, the Prix Victrix, 1600meters, race 3 post time 12:55local time - http://www.francegalop.org/en/racing/de ... 9MbDUrZz09 She is owned by Coolmore and trained by A. Fabre. Interestingly enough, that race has another entry - Sous Les Nuages - shown as being owned by MME Andre Fabre. Similar to how in the US it was OK for Bob Baffert to run horses he trained for both other people and his wife Natalie.

  • 14 October (Monday) - Seagal - Gulfstream Park West MSW for 2yo fillies, 7.5 furlongs on turf (if moved to main track, 7 furlongs). She's starting from post 8 (of 15), race 7 post time 4:09pm US Eastern. Trained by Wesley Ward and ridden by Eduardo Nunez. This is her third start; previous finishes were 7th in 6.5-furlong MSW at Kentucky Downs on 5-September and 2nd in an 5 furlong MSW at Indiana Grand on July 19th, both on turf.
Seagal finished fifth.

Ocean Atlantique was a very easy winner at Saint Cloud. He is inbred 4x3 to Storm Cat. Dissemble, his second dam, is the dam of Leroidesanimaux and is a half-sister to blue hen Hasili.

Cardiac Kid was entered to run at Belmont yesterday but the race was cancelled due to the weather.

Orsay (o/o Life at Ten) is entered on Sunday at Belmont, 6.5f MSW on the dirt. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe she was scratched from her would-be debut last month. Hopefully she makes it to the gate this time.
Soylent green is....tasty!!!

Princesa Caroline has a fever per TVG but Homeland was a very impressive winner.

Eagerly's race was taken off the turf, and he finished last.

The winner was Amends (Uncle Mo), a descendant of Inside Information.

Meanwhile, Emily's Oasis won her race. Shell Shock was last.

The rest of the card at Belmont has been cancelled (only the first race ran) due to high winds, and it's closing day, so I assume no 2019 Chelsey Flower Stakes for Princesa Caroline.
