It's good to keep in mind that while Cairo Prince was at a time one of the early / rising favourites for the Kentucky Derby, he injured himself in the Florida Derby - and never got the chance to win a G1, so he did not have the glittering resumé that Pharoah, Midnight Storm or Classic Empire had when they hung up their bridles. He wouldn't have gotten the best mares in his first book for that reason alone. This current crop of 2yos and the next will be most telling I think. Doesn't hurt his chances that he throws pretty babies and pretty usually gets you a couple more bids.

Animal Kingdom joins the JBBA as their new stallion for 2020!

Yay! I'm so happy!
With his versatility (though he's probably a better turf sire), I think he will do great in Japan :D

Thoroughbreds are so crazy that the groom can drop the shank on an active breeding stallion and he does absolutely nothing.

gotta get the mares tho. he has a chance, if he's supported but my (probably incorrect) view of japanese breeders is that they aren't extra supportive of the stallions they ship in. their big stallions seem to be the only ones any mare ever sees (ie every imported mare generally had a date w Deep Impact with little variance). but with two very big stallion spots to fill next year, hopefully someone takes a chance on him w a few nice mares that cross well on paper and he finds success there.

Even though they appear to have sold him entirely to the main shareholder I would image that Darley would still send him a few mares from their Japan base (did I read the original article wrong?).

Welcome to Japan, Animal Kingdom!

Personally I look forward to seeing some Dancing Brave inbreedings in his Japanese foals.

If Animal Kingdom is being supported by the JBBA, there's not much cause for concern about his number of mares just yet, IMO. 8-)

I really like the move for Animal Kingdom. I think he will cross well with a large swath of the mare population there.

Agreed. I hope he’ll be a hot commodity there; I wasn’t very present in horse racing when he first went to stud, but from what I’ve gathered, breeders didn’t go crazy for him.

As for mares for Animal Kingdom, the Japanese breeders love German bloodlines, which AK has in Acatenango. The JBBA wouldn't have invested without getting a good measure on the market demand.
Drefong drew 204 mares for his debut season and Mind Your Biscuits had 155 mares...and it was said War of Declaration had a 'full' book as well, although I haven't seen the number yet. And add Animal Kingdom
plus Bricks and Mortar to the mix next year. Lots to like about the JRA. Like horses racing as four and five year olds.

As for my homeland, as least Take Charge Indy came home. I hope it cost Winstar plenty.

Hopefully he gets a good chance in Japan, though JBBA (or any non-Shadai stallion) is up against it. He hasn't really been that impressive in North America, but I think his ability on turf will definitely be an advantage in Japan.

Apparently Battalion Runner is standing somewhere. There are mares being sold in foal to him at the FT Saratoga Fall Sale.

Its weird that he isn't being advertised anywhere. I wonder if they were trying to bring him back to the track and he got injured so they just claimed some cheaper mares? All 4 mares were claimed by St. Elias Stable in mid to late May and bred to him and they owned Battalion Runner in partnership during his racing career.

Edited to add:
He also has 3 mares in foal in the Fasig Tipton Saratoga Fall Sale today, October 15th. Two were claimed by St. Elias in May and bred to him. The other they had bought as a 2yo but she last raced in May too.

I wonder if Coolmore will try to bring in one of his sons or a similarly bred young stallion to try to help take over his book. Like they did when George Washington was infertile. You know SD's book was huge.
The more I think about it, the more I think this would be difficult to do. Holy Roman Emperor was retired to replace George Washington. They were similarly bred, top class race horses without a proven stud record. With Scat Daddy's big jump in stud fee and success, he undoubtedly would've had an excellent quality book of mares. I don't think they could get mare owners to transfer over to one of SD's sons, none of them are THAT good or well bred yet. I think they will try to get mare owners to go to AP, as stated above, or one of their other stallions, Bobby, Verrazano, Mo, etc.

On the bright side, have a few more Scat Daddy crops coming, and let's hope there are some good sons in there to carry on....
I was digging through the forum and found this post, and thought it was ironic. Say what you want about Justify, but he’s being given every chance to prove himself as the heir to the throne.

I'd say No Nay Never is already proving himself as a top sire.

And Daddy Long Legs has done pretty well in Chile and already has a winner over here, so who knows what he could be in the future with access to U.S. mares.

I know he stood for a "season" at Strouds Lane in Florida, but they're defunct now and I'm not sure what he was bred to there.
