The other highlight at the Curragh was A.P. McCoy’s attempt at a flying dismount after winning the Champions Charity Race. It sounds like it was a lovely day. It was nice to see all the tributes and support for Pat Smullen in his cancer battle—and a lot of money was raised.

I was lucky to tune in to the livestream right as the charity race was being run. It was really wonderful and emotional watching everyone come together for such a good cause, and to see such legendary jockeys back in the saddle.

I even got in on the action myself and bought Sea the Stars' saddlecloth from when he won the 2009 Irish Champion Stakes in the charity silent auction. I set a budget for myself but I'm afraid I got carried away in the excitement! Oh well.

Unrelated note... anyone in Ireland any time soon and can bring back a small package for me

I think it is a sad and telling sign of the Irish/English breeding industry when a top class horse over 1 1/4 miles 1 1/2 miles isn't even given a chance to be a flat sire. Why even both to continue to call the Epsom Derby (or any 12f race for that matter) a "stallion making race" when even the best flat breeders dont want to stand a horse who excels at the distance.

I wonder what Coolmore did with De Coronado, the tall, handsome full bother of Zenyatta? He'd be six now and, even if he never amounted to much on the track, with a pedigree like that, wouldn't someone be willing to stand him?

I can't confirm this, its just rumors I found in a couple places. Horseracingnation's comment section mentioned it and its also on the Zenyatta Forums(these wont load for me right now, I can only see bits and pieces).

Coolmore had sold him in late 2017 and he run once in early 2018 with new connections. He was then supposedly sold to stand at stud in Libya.

Anapurna leads all the way to win the Prix de Royallieu (G1) at Longchamp. Really gutsy performance—she refused to let the other horses by her.

Billesdon Brook won the Sun Chariot (G1) at Newmarket. Laurens finished 7th in her final career start.

When I'm looking at the listing for a race in Ireland where there are, say, 40 entries and only 18 starters, and 18 of them have "Ballot 0" next to their names - am I correct to assume that the Ballot 0's have all drawn into the race, and the other numbers represent the order in the queue for the remaining 22?

That explanation makes sense, but I didn't want to assume. If there was something else involved, please educate me. That kind of thing along with 3-day, 5-day closer, and so on, are terms that the racing websites tend to assume everyone knows and don't put into even the "New to Racing?" FAQ. And in this case, many web searches for meaning of ballot, ballot number etc with extra words to provide racing context still produced far too many hits on other meanings of 'ballot'. I go back 10 screens of search engine results and still see election-related stuff with perhaps horses in the election story somehow

And finally, do other non-US setups do the same thing? If not, how do they indicate alternates?
