You never know what gems are hiding in those thousand dollar babies. Lots of pedigree variety, would make a nice broodmare band probably.

Weird knowing that I can go to keeneland right now and be able to afford one of these guys. What would I do with him afterwards though?

Whenever I see an old favourite in a cheap claimer or a cute OTTB or even these yearlings available for $1000-$2000, I think, well that's reasonable. I can afford that, right?

Then I remember the $1500~ it will cost per month to keep said horse in a nice, full care, facility, with regular vet and farrier visits (and that's if I never plan on going to horse shows), and VERY quickly I remember why I don't have a horse anymore

Every time I start to think maybe it's time to get a horse, something comes up and I remember oh yeah, that's why I have a savings account (fortunately) and oh right, that's why I just take lessons & help out. Cos then it's not a huge issue if I drop off the face of the earth for two weeks for parent conferences, or have the flu, or need to get my trees trimmed or or or...

Saw a Trip gelding for $500 with New Vocation i believe, and in NY. I loved the dam when she was racing and saw her at Arlington Park. I would love an offspring of hers, found a boarding facility 13 min from me for $450, but vet and farrier are extra. I told myself to be sure i have the commitment for a horse because i have 3 kids under age of 5 and we know how busy we are having kids that age.

Also a beginner rider. I did ask the rehabilation of how he is like under tack. They will let me know in the coming days when they try him out.

More likely doubting to get a horse, but hard to resist a Trip baby!

You mentioned her and I HAD to look for that gelding! His name is Gleason. I first discovered Trip when looking for colts out of Lord at War mares. She had a colt by Dynaformer (named Route), so he became a horse I followed.

Looks like this guy was a $22K yearling trained by Pletcher.

Hip # 2146 .. a Colt (Summer Front-On the Menu), sold for one thousand. Was that the low price of the session?

Summer Front X No Such Word (G1 winner) RNA'd for $1,000 - definitely not a good advertisement for the stallion.

There were 2 other horses besides Summer Front X On the Menu sold for $1,000

Animal Kingdom X Momma's Favourite
Cairo Prince X Love the Breeding

Both of the above were purchased by "Watershed", not sure who that is, but they've purchased 8 fillies for $35,000 so far. Yearlings by Cairo Prince, Animal Kingdom, Bayern, Kitten's Joy, Union Rags, More Than Ready, Bernardini, and Tiznow, so they're definitely getting some value on the pedigree side if they plan on keeping them as broodmares down the line.

What is going on with the super low Animal Kingdom prices this year? I haven't seen a ton of conformation problems. Is it just his unfashionable pedigree?
