I gotta say there hasn't been many Pharoah kids with names that I like so far.

I did really like Horus Bird, but...

Love the nod to the Belmont. I wish there was video of Larry Collmus in the booth, I bet he was scary-smiling ear to ear as he was calling that.

OK, a few days ago I ran across an article saying that Maven was going to be rested for the remainder of the year and brought back for a 2020 campaign. But I was on a loaner machine and didn't update my notes, nor think to send myself the bookmark.

So I guess we can treat that as a rumor until I or someone else finds the article again.

Meanwhile, she's not one of his offspring, but Chasing Yesterday, AP's half-sister sired by Tapit, is being retired. She had been recovering from surgery for an entrapped epiglottis, and it sort of sounds like she didn't recover as much or as fast as needed, and she will become a broodmare now. I posted the article link under the 2019 Three Year Olds thread in Racing.

Thanks for catching that one. Where are you finding the Japan entries?

I have seven 2017 foals that are or were in Japan and show up on JBIS.

Clepat looks like the only runner so far.
Abul Haul,
Danon Pharoah,
Satono Pharoah,
colt o/o Jeweliana (named Nile River in Equibase but not in JBIS),
colt o/o I O Ireland (named A Shin Amen Ra in Equibase but not in JBIS),
colt o/o Mary's Follies

Somewhere in my notes is a scribble from an interview with a buyer from November or January breeding stock sale, the mare had been covered by AP for a 2017 foal, and he said he had purchased several mares with the intention of breeding them in the US and shipping to Japan while in-foal. If he succeeded in getting some of his purchases into AP's book those foals wouldn't be showing up here unless exported from JPN.

14 September (Saturday) workouts (Edited because more workouts showed up after 1pm)
* Ameriel - Fair Hll/allweather
* Cool Runnings - Santa Anita/dirt - First work since finishing 3rd in an MSW at Del Mar on 1 Sept. He'd moved from Santa Anita works to Del Mar on 20-July and now is back at Santa Anita.
* Mandatory - Belmont Park/dirt
* Orsay - Belmont Park/dirt
* Shell Shock - Palm Meadows Training Center/dirt
* Speedy Vanessa - Fair Hill/dirt

Name Registration
* Cafe Pharoah - 2017 colt o/o Mary's Follies. He was purchased by Narvick Intl as agent, out of the OBSMarch 2019 2YoIT for $475,000 and exported to Japan. This name shows up on his Equibase registration and not the Japan JBIS registration.

Additional Upcoming Entry:
15 September (Sunday) - Clepat - AP's first Japanese runner makes her third start in an 1800m Maiden race at Hanshin. First race, post local-time 09:55. Clepat's previous two starts were 27-August 7th of 14 1500m on turf and 31-August 1700m on dirt, both at Sapporo. The second one was particularly fun to watch because she's obviously learned more about what to do from her first start, and in her second she was in lead along the backstretch, ears pricked and moving comfortably, and got nabbed in the last few strides by an amazing fast closer.
(hat tip to RugbyGirl for pointing me at places to check for non-US information)

Cardiac Kid runs in about an hour - 5th race at Churchill Downs, post time 14:45. Three of the 11 entries have scratched including the one horse that was starting to his outside, so he's now breaking from the outside post 10.

Cardiac Kid came in second. He broke well, cut in and moved in behind the quartet of leaders, chasing the pace through the first half. He started moving up after the 4 furlong marker, made his move at the turn and made a terrific stretch drive neck-and-neck with the leader and then ahead by a head or so. What made him second wasn't the former leader getting his nose in front or lucky bob, it was another racer flying up from behind with a last-minute turn of foot who blasted past both of those two to get the win.

Abu Haul came in 7th in his debut today in Japan. His dam, Kitten's Dumplings, was purchased by Shadai in 2016 privately, foaled Abu Haul in the US, was bred back to American Pharoah and then exported to Japan with Abu Haul's full brother in utero. She was bred to Heart's Cry for a 2019 foal. I wonder if we'll be seeing the 2018 colt in a Japanese yearling sale ...

Clepat WON and is now American Pharoah's first Japanese winner and 13th overall winner! Also the first winner at the 1800 meter distance.

The race was at Hanshin, first race of the day (9:55 am local-time), 1800meters on dirt, and out of 7 entries in the Maiden 2yo field, Clepat was the only filly.

She is half to Count Alexander. Her dam Intelyhente is by Smart Strike and is full to Bel Air Beauty.

I think he would have been in the JRHA Select Sale if they had chosen to sell him, which was in July. He wasn't entered.

Awww that awkward body parts growing at different rates stage. It looks like those photos are from solicitations for a racing club ownership? If that's the case then maybe we can follow their club updates to see how the babies are doing and not have to wait until they suddenly pop up in a news article on upcoming entries.

Speaking of upcoming entries, Elfin Queen has been nonimated for a couple of Maiden races at Naas. I think they draw the entries tomorrow so we'll know if she debuts this Wednesday (Sep 18th) or not.
https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/19 ... -18/740280 and https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/19 ... -18/740341

Likewise, South Saqqara has also been nominated for two Maiden runs at Naas, different races but the same day as Elfin Queen's nominations.
https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/19 ... -18/740281 and https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/19 ... -18/740283

Monarch of Egypt is nominated for G2 Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury next Saturday. Will keep an eye on this to see if he's Declared - https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/36 ... -21/736048

I'll update when entries are actually known.

Hong Kong had been nominated for a maiden at Galway tomorrow (Sep 17), but either didn't get drawn or declined to declare since between last night and today he's no longer showing up: https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/18 ... -17/740272
