I have a question about Australian foals. If August 1st is the official birthday, like January 1st is here, is that cute little foal born in late July considered a yearling today, as it would be here in the US? Just wondering.

I'm pretty sure that, as long as the mare was covered within the appropriate window, the fall will be considered born on southern hemisphere time.

It used to be but then the rule changed now as long as the mare was covered after September 1 then it is still considered a foal

That’s good to hear. I heard of farms here that would hide foals until Jan 1st. Wonder why the US doesn’t adopt something similar?

@ Spendthrift Australia

Now this is interesting! A USA-conceived, Aussie-foaled filly by Into Mischief out of MGSP Flashy Gray (Flashy Bull). I assume they intend to breed Flashy Gray to a stallion down under. Wonder who?

Flashy Gray is owned by Spendthrift so one of their stallions probably. They only have 6 that stand in Australia though, it would be strange if they sent her to Australia to be covered by one of their US stallions that shuttles.

@ Claudia Roschlak

Here's an interesting one! Filly by Silvery Moon out of the quarter horse mare Lost My Sockstonite (Nite Chip). Based on what is posted on her All Breed Pedigree page, the dam was a champion in shows.
