I can't believe Catch a Bird is still showing up like this in roan babies. I'm so proud of him. You did it, CAB! You made "grey/roan" legitimate.Mylute wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 1:02 pm Headshot of the Holy Roman Emperor filly. She's my favorite now.

Not a wholesome trottin' race, no, but a race where they sit down right on the horse!

This is Colerful Chrome, the 2018 filly by Chrome out of Colerful Bride who lost her right eye at five weeks old. Although she's not as flashy as some of the horses in this thread, notice the white patch on the left side of her tummy and the unusual lightening-shaped marking on her right knee. She also seems to have a few other small whitish patches here and there, and an unusual "roanish" marking on her left hind ankle:

PS: They are planning to race her, so she is being sent to a breaker later this year, probably in Ocala, FL.

^^ She's chestnut, going grey. Called that when she was born, she was highly hyperpigmented.
Good to see her growing up.

Colerful Chrome is registered as a chestnut. Can that be changed later if she does begin to gray out?Retrospectiv wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2019 3:03 pm ^^ She's chestnut, going grey. Called that when she was born, she was highly hyperpigmented.

I'm assuming they can update that. Happens sometimes when they register before they realize they're grey. She's already greying, it's apparent in her overall colour. That's also accounting for those lighter body spots you're seeing.Ridan_Remembered wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2019 5:22 pmColerful Chrome is registered as a chestnut. Thanks Retrospectiv. I always wondered about her color since she never was the more common bright chestnut. Only sad thing is that interesting lightening mark on her knee will fade over time. She's had it from birth and I like it.Retrospectiv wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2019 5:59 pmI'm assuming they can update that. Happens sometimes when they register before they realize they're grey. Today I discovered Gran Blanco (Rakeen x Perakeen), a spotty-white colt (now gelding I assume) who was bred and foaled in South Africa. Gran Blanco (Great White in Spanish, of course) is special in that he wasn't bred for his color; he just popped out like this. He is also the first, and so far only, white thoroughbred born in South Africa. He has a very workmanlike face.
Apparently he was neglected by those who purchased him at the sales as a yearling and had to be rescued; the article isn't very clear, and the situation is vague.

Racing didn't work out for him, but he's found his niche in eventing and is doing very well as of 2019. His owners, who I assume purchased him after the rescue, already had his OTTB career planned.

In New Zealand the Te Akau trained Luminous (Reliable Man) finished 3rd in a trial yesterday. The currently 3yo filly was stakes placed last season and is expected to have a big spring ahead
Ask me any questions you have about New Zealand and Australia racing

He is a lovely colt. Though I don't find the bottom picture appealing. He is soooo pink. It will be very interesting if he can be even more successful on the track and secure a stud deal.tachyon wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2019 12:05 pm Hayayakko(JPN), 2016C. I thought Yukichan was a GSW? And dang, he fought hard to the wire.

Yukichan was a winner on the local/NRA circuit, not JRA.

The Racingpost article about Hayayakko described the G3 Leopard as "Japan's sole graded dirt race."
What?
