Wooderson (Awesome Again x Lotta Kim), 1/2 to Rachel Alexandra, ran a good second to Tom's d'Etat today in the Alydar Stakes. A good second in that he was 6+ lengths in front of the show horse, T d'E was much better than the one length victory might imply. Regardless, pleased to see Wooderson get a good placing in a stakes race - at the Spa!

Handily bred 3f GENTIANA (Deep Impact x Azeri ) broke maiden over 2000m at Kokura today.

Superstar dam AZERI has had 5 race in Japan, all have won now.

The much talked about half-brother to Restless Rider, Wayne O, was an uninspiring 8th as the favorite today in his debut at Saratoga.

And speaking of Azeri, I wonder whom she will visit next year now that Deep Impact is gone.

Azeri visited Heart's Cry for the first time in 2017 to produce a filly in 2018.
She was not covered in 2018 and her status for this year is unknown.
If she is not retired from breeding, I suspect that she will visit either Heart's Cry again or Lord Kanaloa or Duramente.
Azeri has been producing winners since arriving in Japan but no stakes winner yet.
Let's hope she will finally find her best progeny soon!

During the 6 o'clock hour Mike Smith was aboard the 2-year-old filly America's Surprise, a daughter of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah and half-sister to champion Songbird for Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.

The work basics: America's Surprise went five furlongs in 1:00.20 from the gate with the interim half-mile in :47.40.

America's Surprise is being aimed for a race here next Sunday. Hollendorfer assistant Dan Ward noted of the work: “From what I've seen she's got a really smooth action – like him (American Pharoah).”

Yes, although he'd won a minor stakes on synthetic. He's no worldbeater so far, but definitely upped his stud possibilities.
Can't wait to see the AP v. Songbird.

Judging by PQ it looks like Justwhistledixie has only produced boys so far. Did she have a filly and it passed away? She has no foals registered on there for 2014 or 15.
