~ Apparently they bought him before the Arkansas Derby. Solid prospect; ran from age 3 - 7 and was a good graded stakes runner.

Went to Adena Springs on Sunday after Derby to visit with the stallions. Awesome Again was looking great, they said he will be pensioned this year.

I couldn't get a good shot of Ghostzapper, this one reminds me of when they snuck the horse into the Dean's office in Animal House.

Went to Adena Springs on Sunday after Derby to visit with the stallions. Awesome Again was looking great, they said he will be pensioned this year.

I couldn't get a good shot of Ghostzapper, this one reminds me of when they snuck the horse into the Dean's office in Animal House.

They said he is doing really well. I think they said he got around 85 mares and almost all of them checked in foal. You could tell they are very proud of him. He seemed like a real sweetheart.

I cant link the bloodhorse article as I don't know how to do it on a Mac...but Trinniberg has been sold to Uruguay to the same farm Smarty Jones and Ioya Bigtime is at.. Haras La Concordia...from the website it looks like a VERY nice farm

That's good, all things considered.

I have a feeling that his first crop will be lackluster because of the (more than likely) lackluster mares he got and it will make him look unappealing.

Yeah, I think he's up against it. He may be a Canadian classic winner and duel G1 winner, but the Awesome Again line just isn't precocious and the breed to sell part of the industry has no time for that. Starting in California and covering mares that those that ended up being for sale/rescue for $500 didn't help.

Hopefully he gets some runners in his early crops and can have the consistent success that Ghostzapper and Awesome Again do.

Highly successful Washington stallion and top New York sprinter Abraaj passed away unexpectedly on May 7, 2019. The 16-year-old stallion was among the leading sires in the state, with three Washington champions, including two in 2018 – sprinter Invested Prospect (who had reigned as Washington champion three-year-old in 2016) and two-year-old filly Money Inthe Starrs. 2016 Washington champion sprinter Kaabraaj is Abraaj’s leading earner to date with $197,527, which includes a 2019 victory.

He also sired British Columbia champion filly Quatre Cat among his eight stakes winners (14 percent) from just 58 foals. He also has had five stakes-placed runners to give him a one in three stakes horse average from 39 starters. Through the end of last year his starters had averaged nearly $41,000 apiece.

Abraaj was one of 100 stakes winners sired by multiple graded stakes winner Carson City, a son of major sire influence Mr. Prospector. His winning dam, Kris’s Intention, produced two other stakes winners among her six other winners, including Abraaj’s full brother, Grade 3 victor Leelanau. A daughter of leading broodmare sire Kris S., Kris’s Intention was a half-sister to Schuylerville Stakes (G2) winner How About Now, who would also produce a trio of stakes winners.

Unraced at two, Abraaj was runner-up in three of his four starts as a sophomore, all in East Coast maiden special weight races.

At four he won his first two starts: an Aqueduct maiden special weight, by nine lengths, and an allowance at the same track, by 1 1/4 lengths. Both were at six furlong.

His third win came at Belmont Park where he took and allowance/$50,000 optional claiming (N) race, also going three-quarters of a mile. In his final start of the year he finished last in the Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap (G2) at Saratoga after being “bobbled and bumped at the start.”

At five, he made amends by winning two of his three starts and finishing third in the other. The wins came in a Belmont allowance/$75,000 optional claiming (N) race, which he won by six lengths, and in his second appearance in the Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap, which he took by 2 1/2 lengths. Again, both wins were at six panels, as was the True North Handicap (G2), where he finished third by two necks.

He retired with earnings of $338,950, an SSI of 9.86 and a 5-4-2 record.

Abraaj, who had been a $450,000 Keeneland September yearling, raced throughout his 13-race career for Shadwell Stable and was trained by Kiaran McLaughlin.

British Columbian horseman, the late Rob McDonald, purchased Abraaj as a stallion prospect for $75,000 out of the 2009 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

After starting his stud career at Canmor Farms in British Columbia in 2010, he was moved to Nina and Ron Hagen’s El Dorado Farms for the 2011 breeding season.

Fourteen of his yearlings have been nominated to the 2019 WTBOA Summer Yearling Sale.
