Wasn't Southern Phantom like that? I mean, came from parents with relatively little white? I know Bodemeister has a stocking but still.

Bodemeister has a big wide blaze as well. He has produced several flashy babies besides Southern Phantom, such as Mau the Great (out of Ender's Valentine, pictured here as a yearling)

He does have Rory's Jester up close in his pedigree. RJ was a flaxen chestnut with a blaze and stockings so maybe the color just got hidden for a couple generations.

Dunkirk Harbour (Declaration of War x Goodness Gray) won today for Coolmore. He's a lovely shade of gray. Dam is half to General Quarters.

They are bred to race unlike most of the white Thoroughbreds in the US, which are just bred to be white. The Patchen Wilkes white horses are bred to race but their pedigrees aren't on the levels of that Japanese family of white horses.
