Probably in quarantine down there. He's due back at Northview around Jan. 6

Francois got his 5th win of the year at Hawthorne today -- and his 10th career win. He was tenacious as a bulldog to hold on to this one!

BTW, Smarty's progeny is just about $4000 away from breaking the $5M earnings mark again this year. And he has 7 starters remaining, with more entries to come.

And how fitting that RSO's win put Smarty's progeny over the $5 million mark, for the 4th year. Note that these are worldwide earnings and include countries not counted by the official stats keepers.

Run Smart One finished the year with $31,500 in earnings and 4 wins for the year.
He is a very smart horse and also brave to squeeze through on the rail Saturday.
I have rarely seen a horse who can run his own race at his own pace -- and even know when to quit.
I hope Budhoo knows when it is time to retire him -- should not be allowed to drop below $5,000 claiming level.

Smarty's granddaughter Artemis broke her maiden in her third start (she climbed the ladder in her first 3 start, finishing 3-2-1) at SA.

1st at SAX Msw ($56k) [1m] Winner: Artemis, f, 3 by Empire Maker
Making her first start around two turns and transitioning to a conventional dirt surface for the first time in her career, Artemis (f, 3, Empire Maker--Jelani, by Smarty Jones), the 7-10 chalk, was rated back off the pace from third, got first run on the dueling pacesetters into the stretch and held off a stubborn Lady Bugatti (Bernardini) to graduate narrowly in the Friday opener at Santa Anita. Final time for the one-mile distance was a moderate 1:37.78. A $280,000 OBS March graduate, Artemis--part of an uncoupled entry for John Fort's operation--was a debut third to subsequent GI Hollywood Starlet S. heroine Streaming (Smart Strike) going 6 1/2 panels over the Hollywood Cushion Track Nov. 15 and was most recently second to Saturday's GII Santa Ynez S. hopeful Crushed Velvet (Malibu Moon) and ahead of next-out maiden winner Fashion Plate (Old Fashioned) in a Dec. 8 maiden in Inglewood. Lifetime Record: 3-1-1-1, $48,000. O-Peachtree Stable. B-John Gardiner & Frank McEntee (KY). T-Jerry Hollendorfer.

She is really cute too! This is Artemis in the Hollywood Park paddock before her Dec 8 second place to Crushed Velvet.

A little news from the KEEJan sale: 4YO Clever (2010 filly, Smarty Jones - Miss Hellie by A. P.Indy) sold for $90,000 to Calumet Farm. She is reportedly in foal to To Honor and Serve. She did not race.

Calumet also has purchased Wise Impression (unraced) and Emosewa for its broodmare band.

Run Smart one in for $5,000 at Calder Sunday at one mile and 70 yards..
This is a tougher group than last time -- lucky to get a piece, I think.

An informal conformation shot for Seattle Jones, Smarty's eventing son. He's o/o a Seattle Slew mare, which I think you can see.

5yo Smart Owner, retired via Turning for Home, left for his new residence this morning: South Jersey Thoroughbred Rescue and Adoption. I assume he'll get some letdown time, then some rehab and retraining. He's the horse on the right (photo from the TFH FB page):
