I have a question about coat color genetics and I'm posting it here because it pertains to stallions.

Long River is a chestnut, but his sire is dark bay/brown and his dam is bay.

Both of Mucho Macho Man's parents are gray, but he's bay, and I thought that gray was dominant?

What is at play here?

Long River obviously did not inherit A for Agouti from either parent, and is thus red factor.

Grey is dominant, but a horse must receive a copy from at least one parent to inherit it. Mucho Man's sire and dam are both heterozygous grey, meaning they only each have one copy of the grey gene, and always have a 50/50 chance of passing it on. In this case, neither the sire or dam did. Homozygous (GG) horses carry 2 copies of grey and will always pass it on.

A Shin Forward Gets First American-bred Foal

Edition Farm, which bred A Shin Forward, also bred the filly born March 5.

The sire's first American foal is a filly out of Edition Farm homebred Miney's Awesome, a winning daughter of Awesome Again . The mare is a half sister to black-type winners Minetonightsfirst (by D'Accord) and Pooska Hill (Phantom Jet) and has already produced seven winners from eight foals to race.

Chestnut can be hiding agouti.

Agouti (bay) needs one copy of the extension (red/black factor) to show. He didn't inherit E...

ee is chestnut
Ee is heterozygous black
EE is homozygous black

aa means no agouti
Aa is heterozygous agouti
AA is homozygous agouti

Heterozygous has a 50% chance to pass it on
Homozygous will always pass one copy of the gene and if both parents are homozygous then the foal will be as well

Long River parents were either Ee Aa or Ee AA

It works the same for grey so both MMM parents were Gg for the gray gene

Redkirk Warrior Retired, Trapeze Artist Gets Stud Deal

Trapeze Artist will likely be retired at the end of his autumn campaign, which could include an overseas farewell to racing. The Gerald Ryan-trained 4-year-old won his fourth group 1 stakes when he took the Canterbury League Club Stakes (G1) in emphatic fashion at Randwick March 9.

Trapeze Artist (Snitzel) is out of Treppes, who is a half sister to group 1 winner Crawl and the listed winner Old Man. The colt, who won the Mercedes-Benz Canberra Black Opal Stakes (G3) as a juvenile, has earned AU$5,543,750 ($4,138,321) from seven wins and four placings in 19 starts.

Surprised he was pensioned, but nice to see he found a home at Old Friends. Pass that place everyday but have never been there, too busy working or too tired from working. Might have to make a visit yo see him, such a gorgeous boy!

It kills me that Einstein wasn't loved by breeders. He was a really good racehorse on any surface, raced through (IIRC) his seventh year and retired sound, handsome as heck and had a good temperament. Also provided an interesting outcross with his Spend a Buck bloodline.
I think he's only 16 or 17, but I guess his yearlings just didn't wow at the sales, and he didn't sire precocious speedsters.

It's nice that Adena sends their pensioners and less successful stallions to Old Friends to live out their days. Touch Gold, Alphabet Soup, now Einstein. They see out their careers of almost all of their stallions, with a handful going to regional markets like Indiana, Washington, California, etc. But you don't see them selling their stallions to Korea, South America, Turkey, etc. if they aren't making the grade.

Not that there is anything wrong with that, there is a market for less successful American stallions abroad and 99% of the foreign buyers take amazing care of their stallions. You just don't seem to have to worry about losing track of many Adena stallions.

He wasnt unsound with three starts under his belt

He may of had some general issues and they just aren't saying it, as well.

What? Einstein (BRZ) didn't have only three starts. From the Bloodhorse article:
Trained by Helen Pitts, Einstein (Spend a Buck—Gay Charm, by Ghadeer) captured the 2009 Santa Anita Handicap (G1) and four grade 1 stakes on turf, including back-to-back triumphs in the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic (G1T) at Churchill Downs.
Other wins include the 2008 Clark Handicap (G2), also at Churchill, and the Mervin H. Muniz Jr. Memorial Handicap (G2T) at Fair Grounds.
In all Einstein made 30 starts, winning 11 races. He won or placed in 13 stakes, all of which were graded, and his career earnings totaled $2,703,324.

RE: Einstein (BRZ) I think I was surprised as well. I did wonder whether there was a fertility or other issue (not life or quality-of-life threatening) or lack of commercial appeal. Commercial being the operative word.
