Scanned on Wednesday, Feb. 27, the mare Gold Round is a half-sister to three-time Breeders' Cup Mile winner and champion Goldikova, and she is the dam of Golden Valentine, winner of the Group 3 Prix Minerve in France. Gold Round, a 22-year-old Caerleon mare out of the Blushing Groom mare Born Gold is owned by LNJ Foxwoods and boarded at Darby Dan Farm.

I remember hearing a phrase similar to, "Send proven mares to new stallions, and new mares to proven stallions" on here.

I mean, I think it kind of used to be considered a good way to get a new stallion off to the right start. And LNJ Foxwoods owns a share in Oscar Performance, so it does make sense for them to support him with a quality mare.

Yes, her 2nd born was by Sebring, Prince of Caviar. He broke his maiden in a race last September after a couple of 2nds and a 4th in his debut.

I can definitely see the commercial aspect to that mantra... but for an operator that has so much cash to spare and is a huge spender at sales, as opposed to a huge seller... it's just kind of meh

American Pharoah bucking trends at every turn

It’s ordinarily considered risky to breed to a stallion in the year his first foals are set to hit the racetrack. By the time the resulting foal is born, the value of the sire could have skyrocketed due to freshman success – or it could have plummeted if he didn’t live up to early expectations.

But American Pharoah, who became the first Triple Crown winner in 37 years, is no ordinary horse. And a selective market has not responded in the ordinary fashion, with the young stallion living up to all expectations so far.

“Usually, I don’t like breeding to horses when they have their first-crop 2-year-olds – it’s just dangerous,” Mark Taylor of the family operation Taylor Made Farm said while discussing the 2015 Triple Crown winner’s first crop. “But I’m going to be breeding to American Pharoah [in 2019]. If he doesn’t get runners, I’ll be shocked. He got the mares, and he’s doing his job. He’s putting quality into every one of them. I think big things are on the horizon.”

I always liked this beautiful horse and I hope he's in good hands. It looks like Oakton Farm Stallions may be connected to the same people as the former Stonewall in KY and Prestige Stallions in FL, which is....hmmm.

The Paulick article about Stonewall Prestige's strangles debacle says that "the department allowed seven stallions to be moved to a separate property". This somewhat adds up with Oakton's (Prestige) roster of stallions - Black Onyx, Big Drama, Suntracer, Greatness, Uncle Vinny, and Suns Out Guns Out. They also have really nice confo pics. Website describes Oakton as "Florida's newest operation".

Finale would then make seven. Obviously, there's a chance the article's author simply types "seven" when he meant six , but if not, I wonder who the seventh was. This is definitely interesting!

Also, Stonewall's stallions who aren't accounted for are Shades of Night, Lord of Greatness, Telling, Doneraile Court, and Kibbutznik.

The 7-year-old son of Pure Prize will stand at Haras Vacación for a syndicate that includes Haras La Providencia, for whom he ran as a homebred, Haras Firmamento and Haras Santa Ines. He spent five seasons on the racetrack, winning eight of 19 starts and earning $1,320,861.

Hi Happy won a quartet of Group 1 races in Argentina, including two legs of the country's Triple Crown, en route to being named 2015 Horse of the Year and champion stayer.

Happy 30th Birthday, Arazi!

The World Champion 2YO of 1991, Arazi (USA) is still going strong at age 30 at Stockwell Thoroughbreds in Victoria.

He retired to stud leaving 11 stakes-winners headed by multiple Grade I winner Congaree, but failed to match his racetrack achievements in the breeding barn and ultimately ended his stud life at the Independent Stallion Station in Victoria covering his last small book of four mares in 2011.
