Stunning shots from horse racing's photographer of the year
His father was a legendary royal correspondent, but when young Edward Whitaker tagged along to watch Prince Charles play polo he was more fascinated by the phalanx of photographers.

From that early interest blossomed an illustrious career in which Whitaker has become a doyen of horse racing photography.

Some fantastic photos here.

I especially love this one:

Shower time – Another picture that has defined his career is this shot of the great stallion Danehill being hosed down at Coolmore Stud in Ireland in 2003. "I just love the whole effect, how the water is reacting over the horse. He turns his neck so it was almost like a massage to him, and you can see how much he's enjoying it. I had to shoot it on a slow shutter speed and there's a real sense of movement in the water, and the light is just lovely."

Houstatonic bloodstock recently posted photos of Blofeld and he's graying out so beautifully.

The horse isn't identified but he's certainly having quite the hair day...

Bel Sheba.jpg
Bel Sheba, dam of the great Alysheba. I thought I had lost this picture, but a dig through my closet and opening of a mysterious box yielded photos of unknown relatives ("Okay, he's holding a string of large catfish, so he's obviously kin to the Coxes...") and this grand old mare. At one point, she was the oldest living dam of a Kentucky Derby winner. Plus she produced four other stakes winners. The full body shot of her from Blood-Horse wasn't as pretty as this headshot.

This photo from USA Today after Funny Cide won the '03 Derby always gets me "in the feels", as they say.

That's about normal.
I had a walking horse with a head the size of a Lincoln limousine. It could have seated 12. He had to have a custom bridle. His bit alone cost $140.00 in the 1970"s.

Looks like a draft for a sculpture project at one of Frank's tracks.
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Commentator doing a "handstand" at Old Friends Cabin Creek (from https://www.americasbestracing.net/life ... labor-love, originally posted on the Cabin Creek Facebook page). Especially heartwarming because his feet were really bad when he first arrived at Cabin Creek and this picture was taken after he got some farrier work done and started feeling better.
