Heigh ho, good neighbors. I know it's been a while. Life has been extremely busy lately, particularly what with having to work in Austin these past few months.

Anyway.

Aside from the Indian 2000 Guineas, Derby, St. Leger, 1000 Guineas & Oaks (the histories of which I have), there are many other Derbys & such in India.

Such as:
Golconda
Bangalore
Mysore
North India
South India
Nilgiris
Delhi (?)
Hyderabad (? - not sure if I spelled that right)

plus races called Colts' & Fillies' Trials and the Indian Arc de Triomphe.

There are also races like the Monsoon Derby & Pune Derby & Deccan Derby. The Indian Stud Book Authority is unwilling to cooperate (I'm not sure if they were joking or if it was a typo when they said a non-Indian subscription to the website is $1000 US DOLLARS, but... seriously? Norway didn't demand a nickle out of me for lists of classic winners, and were happy to share, and the APR is $275 a year!), so I'm wondering... does anybody have lists of the winners of those races? PQ has only a bit of info, and beyond that... zilch. I'm baffled as to why so much racing history seems to be a secret. Don't get me started on Belgium, for instance, or why Kenya seems to have lost all pedigree info on its classic winners...

Anybody got lists? Ideas? Knowledge of the actual cost, in US dollars, of a subscription to the India Stud Book Authority page?

I was stunned by a reply from the Indian Stud Book registrar, who said he was quite serious--a subscription to the Indian Stud Book website for a person in the US is $1000 in US money. To get lists of winners of races would be $100. I told him that I would seek info elsewhere. He even had the gall to say that my requests for information was 'petty'.

Apparently the histories of stakes races in India are a closely-guarded secret. Either way... I found the attitude shameful. Guh. So at this point, it seems that getting those histories is impossible. I'll keep trying, but it's a hard slog. There might be someone out there who has the histories, but right now, I can't imagine who that might be.

Would it be possible to contact former stallion owners or stud farms directly? Either in India or places that would have exported stallions and mares to India? There might be a way to get an 'in' through there. I believe there is one Sunday Silence line stallion (a son of Deep Impact perhaps?) currently standing at stud in India.

As an aside though I just checked on the website and a subscription to the Indian Stud Book Website costs 1770 Rupees taxes included which comes about to 26.38 USD. I think this guy just has his currency conversion screwed up.

Yeah, I pointed out that currency rate to the guy and he said it was $1000 US FIRM and that they weren't interested in comparing prices to other websites/countries.

This is what he said:

Dear Mr Jxxxx

1. Please note that we are busy with various matters and have no time to waste on petty ones.

2. I have discussed your requirements and have requested that you submit an amount of US$ 1000.

3. We are not interested in comparing the costs of outher countries.

4. Keeping in mind your requirement of names of classic winners in India and that you do not need a login id, the best we could do is to send you the details at US$ 100.

5. If you would like us to do so, please take it forward.

If the guy doesn't have his currency exchanges screwed up, then he's doing some SERIOUS price gouging for US subscribers. (And I'm a MISS, thank you!)

I'll keep looking around. A kind soul at PQ suggested contacting the Aga Khan website, and when I couldn't send messages there, I posted at Facebook. I'll try to contact the other studs in India, too. Someone out there is willing to share, I'm sure. Just not the Indian Stud Book. I also contacted Timothy Cox from http://www.thecoxlibrary.com/. He might also be a good resource.

Raining here in central Texas. TV satellite flipping out. Hoping the lights don't go out before I can post...

That wasn't very friendly of him. And by denying information to anyone interested in TB breeding and racing in India, he's not doing of very good job of promoting the Indian TB.

Interesting that Sir Cecil's main opponent is trained by the real Sir Henry Cecil's stepson. I didn't know that there were any imported Thoroughbred trainers in India at all, tbh.
