Regarding Tapit...if he is indeed having fertility issues this year, if the rumor Horsebagger (I think) mentioned is true, I wonder how any of his 113 got in foal.
Grindstone (2 mares) also gets the award for “Woah, he’s still around?”.

Multiple covers with same mare before catching. Nobody suggested he was infertile.
it burns time and leads to later foaling than anticipated
which costs mare owners money/value in the foal, and ultimately the mare
Which leads to consideration of other stallions with valuable mares
Speaking from direct experience, not rumors. But maybe we're the outlier, which is possible, which is why I posed the question earlier this year. I'm now guessing not.

Tom's Ready got 48 mares then he dropped off the face of the planet. Was he infertile and Spendthrift just hasn't said anything? Seems awfully weird. I know he was only a G2 winner but they are usually good about getting 100+ mares to their stallions the first year. Add to that he is MIA from their 2019 roster, really makes me wonder if something happened to him.

Didn't see any other posts about Rainbow Heir but now there's this story. Very unusual...Mylute wrote: ↑Mon Oct 22, 2018 10:59 am Hey, quick question.
So Rainbow Heir supposedly went to stud this year at Ocala. But I noticed a few months ago that he was still running this year. I thought OK, maybe they decided to give him another go.
But apparently he bred 30 mares this year.
Didn’t see an article about him “breeding mares but being infertile” anyway so what gives?
Week in Review: Rainbow Heir Returns from Stud Duty for Breeders’ Cup
More: https://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/w ... eders-cup/When the pre-entries were announced for this year’s Breeders’ Cup, the presence of Rainbow Heir (Wildcat Heir) went largely ignored. That wasn’t exactly a surprise since he’ll go in one of the less glamorous races on the Saturday card, the GI Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, and he’s never even run in a Grade I race.
But what many probably did not know is that he is a racing oddity, a horse that has returned to run in the Breeders’ Cup after standing a successful season at stud.
The 8-year-old New Jersey-bred appeared to have ended his racing career on a good note. He was retired after winning the Jan. 27 Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint. He recorded a career high 106 Beyer figure that day in what was his second straight stakes win for the owner, Eb Novak’s New Farm and trainer Jason Servis.
His stud fee was set at $3,500 and he went to Ocala Stud in Florida. According to Novak, he was bred to “about 40 mares.” There were no set plans to bring Rainbow Heir back to the races, but Novak never forgot a conversation he had with Servis the year before.

Fair point. I hear he has become more fertile in the past few years 60-70% which is good for him.
On the other hand I have heard lots of rumours of a FSS Australian sire that has only one mare in foal so far. The farm sends mares back to breeders saying they were not in season but the stallion has now been removed from advertising and a popular stallion website

Bal a Bali at 125 is interesting. Since Tiznow's sons have been such disappointments at stud it would be interesting if he really produces, and he becomes the one to continue the In Reality line and not a Tiznow son. And it would be so appropriate given that line's tendency to be carried forward by the least likely suspect.

Gotta wonder what the Euros think, if at all, about Bal a Bali.Saratogian wrote: ↑Sat Nov 10, 2018 10:09 pm Bal a Bali at 125 is interesting. Also, wonder if Calumet will consider shuttling him to his native land.

I would imagine they wouldn't consider shuttling him given that he suffered laminitis during his racing career.Mylute wrote: ↑Sat Nov 10, 2018 11:22 pmGotta wonder what the Euros think, if at all, about Bal a Bali.Saratogian wrote: ↑Sat Nov 10, 2018 10:09 pm Bal a Bali at 125 is interesting. That was actually supposed to be "many" instead of "any", lol.Horsebagger wrote: ↑Tue Oct 23, 2018 8:56 amMultiple covers with same mare before catching. Nobody suggested he was infertile.

I took it as 'many' and the answer I can tell you is no more than 112 of them.Mylute wrote: ↑Sun Nov 11, 2018 10:44 amThat was actually supposed to be "many" instead of "any", lol.Horsebagger wrote: ↑Tue Oct 23, 2018 8:56 amMultiple covers with same mare before catching. The mares in foal to him aren't selling well at all.Flanders wrote: ↑Sun Nov 11, 2018 12:46 amI would imagine they wouldn't consider shuttling him given that he suffered laminitis during his racing career.Mylute wrote: ↑Sat Nov 10, 2018 11:22 pmGotta wonder what the Euros think, if at all, about Bal a Bali.Saratogian wrote: ↑Sat Nov 10, 2018 10:09 pm Bal a Bali at 125 is interesting. Perhaps more of a reflection on the mares themselves than the covering sire?

To be fair the mares I've seen in the catalogue probably aren't the best he saw in general. Calumet's broodnare band isn't the best and when I was looking them over a while back, most of them if not all seemed to be of Calumet's "brand". I did see one I liked pretty well. I'll go and check.

Resurrecting this thread because I see that Tapizar got 58 mares.
Wonder how much the book will increase with Monomoy Girl.
