How many people are gonna be lining up for Army Mule, reckon? Or guess?

2019 Fees for Darley stallions
Alpha* $5,000
Animal Kingdom $15,000 (-$15,000)
Astern $15,000
Bernardini $50,000 (-$35,000)
Frosted $50,000
Hard Spun $40,000
Medaglia D'Oro $200,000 (-$50,000)
Midshipman $8,500
Nyquist $40,000
Street Boss $20,000
Street Sense $50,000 (+$15,000)
*Standing at Sequel Stallions in New York
https://www.racingpost.com/bloodstock/b ... ons/349574
All time lowest fee for Bernardini. He's stood for as low as $60,000 before, then swinging back up to $150,000. This could be a steal if that trend repeats itself... or a sign that he's heading the way of Forestry.

I'm surprised Medaglia d'Oro has gone down. With the way his yearlings were on absolute fire at the sales... I suppose Bolt d'Oro hasn't done really great in the second half of the year and Wonder Gadot's Travers fiasco probably wasn't the best advertisement... (I still think she should've gone for the Canadian Triple) but it's not like he's done poorly I don't think?

I think it has to do with the competition at his level becoming harder, or more saturated. I said in another post that there are several stallions in the $100K+ fee range, that will be both new and proven in 2019, so they’re probably coming down a bit to entice breeders more. I don’t think Bolt or Gadot’s success, or lack thereof in the present months, has much to do with it. It could also be due to fertitility, as he is getting older (19 I think this year).Treve wrote: ↑Mon Oct 15, 2018 12:07 pm I'm surprised Medaglia d'Oro has gone down. My first thought was the competition as well, fertility second. Was just surprised after seeing Tapit drop 75k to see MDO drop as much. I might have thought a 25k drop or so

Another factor behind some of these drops could be the financial environment. The stock market just had a huge drop, and the smart people advising the stallion managers at the big stud farms could be suggesting that we are going to have a bear market for a while, reducing the amount of money even rich people have to indulge in their horse racing hobby.

I don't think anyone here knew anything else or heard anything more. I remember him asking that, but I haven't seen anything about it since anywhere else...

Those are reasonable fees, IMO. Mucho Macho Man is doing better than I would have expected with his 2 yr olds; I'd really like to see him (and, by association, his sire line) have a big success.

Just noticing they have 4 Classic winners on their roster. Wonder why I hadn’t realized that before, ha. Impressive.

More than reasonable I feel in the current ballooning stud fee prices I think some of these could be bargains. Shaman Ghost starting lower in Kentucky than Cairo Prince did... and lower than McCraken will be.middleground wrote: ↑Fri Oct 19, 2018 9:46 pm

I guess since the Kentucky farm/operation is for sale and the family is feuding, they aren't planning on buying any new stallion prospects... but 5 of the 8 stallions on the roster are really closely related via Primal Force. It's an incredible family that any breeder would be lucky to have, but would you think it is kind of backing them into a corner at the moment? Good value but not really a lot of variety.

Love McCraken but honestly I would rather have Shaman Ghost for $7,500 if I was looking for a Ghostzapper son (which there aren't many of, actually).

Same, seems like a no brainer to me, 7500$ vs 10 000$ and when you compare their records... Love the pedigree on Shaman Ghost and he's certainly proven versatile. I like that he ran and won off Lasix for a little bit. Like that he's won at a varying array of distances. He showed he was reasonably durable too. I haven't seen too many horses inbred on Relaunch either.
Hope he will be well supported, he wasn't exactly given the best of chances in his first season.

I’m not a member of Stronach and i’m not an expert in the horse business, but from an outsider’s perspective sending Shaman Ghost to California for his first year wasn’t a good idea. At all.Treve wrote: ↑Sun Oct 21, 2018 7:03 pmSame, seems like a no brainer to me, 7500$ vs 10 000$ and when you compare their records... When he went to stud the only other decent sons of Ghostzapper at stud were Hunters Bay and Iliad, a lightly raced Gr.II winner who entered stud the same year, both in Canada. Shaman Ghost didn’t have the commercial appeal that like, “a fast precocious son of Into Mischief or Unce Mo” would have but he won at a variety of distances and performed well against the big boys. He should’ve at least been given a shot.
Oh well. At least now he’ll get a better one, especially since Ghostzapper is now the damsire of a TC winner. I’m still bummed he had scratch from the 2016 Classic.

I agree with everything you said. I believe the original reason he was sent to California was to support the breeding industry there but it was a bit of a head scratcher. If the idea was to support the breeding industry there why not just move one of the already proven stallions standing elsewhere?
