Just doing the math.....Limited book and dropping fee in the hottest stallion market in a decade? Makes no sense to me. Something else is going on.

Limited book may be, but he didn't have any scintillating runners this year (and arguably the last), and while his sales average was still excellent relative to his fee (600 000), he was outsold by Medaglia d'Oro, War Front, American Pharoah and even Uncle Mo depending on the metrics used, and wasn't his usual 750 000+. With a second Triple Crown winner getting onto the stallion market, I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped it to keep him competitive with the best mares. War Front and MDO are standing for 250 000 each, Uncle Mo stands 125 000, American Pharoah for 110 000 and Justify is announced as 150 000 but we will probably see a 2 for 1 deal if the second mare is a graded stakes producer or winner herself like we did for Pharoah so it 'comes down' to 75 000 per mare.

Although I would be curious about his fertility levels and what shape his sperm might be in.

Odd to see Tapwrit is more than Tapizar... especially with the year Monomoy Girl has had.

Can't say I'm surprised about Gemologist. He stayed longer than TCI at least. How are his Chilean runners faring? Or has he been shuttling long enough to have them?

I remember he got a Gr.I winner in his first crop, a filly named Yellow Agate. Haven't heard from her since. Wonder where she is.

Yeah it doesn't surprise me either. I was surprised he was still there for 2018. His results as a stallion have been poor. He hasn't sired a single stakes winner this year and only has 5 total. Maybe they decided to give him another year because he had sired Yellow Agate and G3SW Theory in his first crop and both of them went into the Breeders Cup Juvenile races undefeated.

Yellow Agate only raced 5 times and she was unplaced in her last 3 starts. She was bred to Curlin this year.
Theory has only raced 7 times and has been unplaced in his last 5 starts, last raced in a $25,000 Claimer at Aqueduct in February and finished 6th of 8.

His first crop of Southern Hemisphere runners are just 2, none have started yet.

That's wonderful for Yellow Agate. I was immediately a fan of her for the name. Hopefully he does better in Chile. I was a fan or him for his name as well.

Thank you.

$15,000 seems low for Midnight Lute. He seems to consistently get good runners every year. :?

In spite of this he’s cold at the sales which is probably why.

It's not about getting consistent runners every year. It's about speedy juveniles and big sales money.
