Robbed. Racing's new hero winning over new and old fans alike, then being whisked away? Talk about crashing down from your high. I know I know, horses are not public property but when you do something so significant to the sport, I feel there is some level of... I don't know how to describe it... conscience? Towards the fans one should have or at least consider.

Expected.
Pharoah, in this day and age of needing to rush 3yos to the shed, will be an anomaly.
Of course, maybe he’s a story like Smarty Jones was. I remember how angry we all were for his BS retirement to just find out the issues he had were fairly genuine later.

definitely robbed. racing's biggest hero in how long? and off he goes with less than 6 months of screen time. i think AP actually takes the sting out of it - justify was a ridiculous disappointment, but at least i saw AP, too.
and i just wanted to be happy re: justify, but it went from whoa, what a horse! to arguments over race fixing/race riding, to him disappearing as quickly as it began.
i think heartbroken is actually an accurate term for me, and had AP not happened it would be even worse. i'd feel better if justify had lost the TC, frankly.

I agree Pharoah definitely soothes the sting. He gave something to racing and I feel to fans, that cannot be taken away. He renews hope for the fact that no, Justify doesn’t have to be the new normal.

You gotta give it to Zayat- I am sure Coolmore wanted to retire AP after he won the crown but Zayat wanted
to show off his horse; after AP lost the Travers Zayat wanted to retire him: he was devastated but i think
Baffert convinced him that he could train AP up to the Classic and look what happened. Pharoah really did it all- sure it would have
been great to see him as a four year old but that will probably never happen with a horse that wins the triple crown.

It won't happen unless they are gelding, or by some chance "old school" connections own the winner.barbaro111 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 07, 2018 12:02 pm You gotta give it to Zayat- I am sure Coolmore wanted to retire AP after he won the crown but Zayat wanted

I think that unless Godolphin or Juddmonte own the next Triple Crown winner, we won't ever see a TC winner race on as a 4 year old. Both operations obviously hope to turn a profit, but stud fees aren't the be all end all for what are essentially billion dollar passion projects for very wealthy, sporting men.
Coolmore, on the other hand, can be sporting when they feel like it, but despite the $$$ they have, they are in the business of stud fees. I read in some post race article or the other this year that the Coolmore "lads" are now in the stage of their careers where they want to enjoy their horses on the track rather than whisk them to the shed... but then they retire Caravaggio, Churchill, Gleneagles, etc. so I don't really buy that.

I truly think that it wouldn't matter who owned the colt, if he wins the US Triple Crown he is going to retire and not race at 4. Some of the operations are very sporting with their European based horses. But treat their US based horses different, whisking them off to stud ASAP.Northport wrote: ↑Sun Oct 07, 2018 11:06 pm I think that unless Godolphin or Juddmonte own the next Triple Crown winner, we won't ever see a TC winner race on as a 4 year old. Coolmore retires the ones that can bring the best stud fees, the hype horses that are either precocious(Champion 2yos), top sprinters, or good milers/mid distance horses. If they have a horse that specializes in 12f+, they will keep that one in training at 4 and maybe even beyond that.

Lane’s End has announced their stud fees for 2019, and as I expected, old man Langfuhr has been pensioned.
https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing ... 019-rosterCanadian champion and three-time grade 1 winner Langfuhr , who has stood at Lane's End since 2004, has been pensioned. The 26-year-old son of Danzig has sired 75 black-type winners worldwide, of which 23 are graded/group winners and five are champions. His son Wando won the 2003 Canadian Triple Crown and was subsequently named Canadian Horse of the Year and champion 3-year-old. Langfuhr's runners collectively earned more than $114.1 million.
