I suspect that Deep Impact covered fewer mares this year than last year just because of his age.Treve wrote: ↑Sun Sep 09, 2018 1:23 pmGeez and we thought the Coolmore stallions worked hard
Thanks for sharing Tachyon, interesting to see there's such a huge jump for some stallions and a sharp decline for others.
I'm a bit surprised about Deep Impact, with the results Coolmore has been getting I'd have expected them to send more Galileo mares to him.
Think we'll see an uptick for Heart's Cry because of Yoshida next year?
His numbers are still huge for a stallion aged 16yo,.
He remains Shadai's flagship stallion of course and will only cover very best quaility mares in the world.
I'm not sure if we will see an uptick in numbers for Heart's Cry next year, as he is already 17yo now.
But I do think that he will be given better group of mares and, hopefully, more top US dirt mares will visit him.
Yoshida's success was very good news.
Heart's Cry son stallion Just a Way's flying start as a first-season-sire so far this year has added strong credentials to his own sire-line, too.
I will make a report on the success of Just a Way some day.

Shadai's Stallions' sire-lines don't seem to be well diversified.
What we are seeing right now is a match-up between Sunday Silence-line and Kingmambo-line.
But Roberto-line may join the battle, too, if Epiphaneia and Maurice turn out to be very successful, too.

RugbyGirl--I'm interested in horses of US breeding or major accomplishments, so thank you. P.S I did a "light hiking" trip to South Island in March--great scenery, food, and wine, but if I never see another rain forest, that's fine with me!
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

Now I'm curious, what contributed to your feelings about this wet, apparent hellscape

So it seems they've buried the hatchet, as Coolmore has sent mares to Dubawi as well. What started the Coolmore/Godolphin feud in the first place?Mylute wrote: ↑Sat Sep 22, 2018 10:04 am Mares Godolphin Sent to Galileo

I'm sure there were many reasons. Here is an article from 2006:

Thank you! This clarifies a lot of the questions I had since I'd first heard/read about the cold war between these two. Although I can only imagine how furious the normally soft-spoken, measured AOB had to be at Dettori for saying something like that.Flanders wrote: ↑Sun Sep 23, 2018 8:26 pmI'm sure there were many reasons. Their grudge match being over can only be a good thing for breeding... more outcrossing more lines supported/kept alive.
I've got a few theories about what helped build the bridge.

I'd wager the fact that Galileo has gone on to become the most influential sire on the planet, and possibly better than Sadler's Wells and Danehill, played a large role. Dubawi is great, and he's taken advantage of the lacklustre (by Coolmore's standards) year that Ballydoyle has had, but Galileo is just too good to ignore. And before Charlie Appleby really hit is stride this year with some great homebreds and big auction purchases, Godolphin's results had been almost embarrassingly bad for 5+ years. Saeed bin Suroor's still are.
After all of bin Suroor's complaining in 2017, and the fact that John Ferguson (Godolphin's bloodstock agent/buyer) is gone (his son is one of Charlie Appleby's Assistant Trainers, which led Bin Suroor to state that that is why Appleby has been getting the better stock), I wonder if Bin Suroor got better two year olds in 2018. As of now, it sure doesn't seem like it. I think it's more that Godolphin changed their policy on keeping horses-in-training purchases with their existing owners, instead of giving them to Bin Suroor.
That was mostly off topic, but I find the Coolmore/Godolphin superpowers and their feuds really interesting.

Well, "rain" forest should give you a hint! Actually we didn't have all that much rain, it was just that the forest landscape was a little monochromatic. Like, green. As an avid amateur photographer, I found it challenging! But. . .I'm going to Tasmania this spring, so I guess I couldn't have hated it too much.

But that lush greenery can be gorgeous if you know how to capture it!
