That isn't how it works in Thoroughbreds. Grey is a color modifier. If one parent is grey then every foal has a 50% chance to be grey. Of course there can be homozygous grey Thoroughbreds, Linamix, Swing Til Dawn, Al Hattab, are a few I can think of.

25% chance of being grey is one parent is heterozygous grey. 50% chance of being grey if both parents are heterozygous grey, and 100% chance of being grey if one parent is homozygous, if I recall the probability breakdown correctly.

Ah depends on how you look at it your 7th grade class was partly right, but potentially misleading?
Homozygous grey will guarantee a grey foal, as grey is dominant and only needs one copy to be expressed. Since a homozygous horse has two copies, they will always transmit one to the offspring (this is why double dilutes like cremello and perlino horses are 'guaranteed colour producers' as they will necessarily throw buckskin, palomino or smokey black).
But a heterozygous grey parent also has a chance at throwing a grey foal, it's just not guaranteed they will inherit that lone copy of the gene. But if they do, since grey is dominant, the foal will be grey.

Not a new photo, but one I know hasn't been posted here before. According to the farm's Facebook page he was pensioner this year due to lack of interest. A shame because he has a strong family, and also according to their FB he has had several winners this year. I wanted to share it because I like to think people like black thoroughbreds as much as I do.

He was favourite for the Epsom Derby at one point, and was way hyped before and after he broke his maiden, hence the Tier 1 Coolmore name (up there with the likes of George Washington, Camelot, Australia), unfortunately, he just didn't improve as a 3 year old.

Of course it seems like a lot but there are no true outcrosses anymore or at least none that anyone would use. I would imagine it is close to impossible to find a horse that doesn't have either Mr. Prospector or Northern Dancer in its pedigree somewhere.

Manhattan Cafe, Tagula, Mizzen Mast, Aikenite, Skipshot, Musketier, Network, Lauro, Balko, Robin des Champs, among many others.

Ok so from your list there is one US based stallion that people actually use, Mizzen Mast. But he is 20 years old and has no heir apparent as his 3 sons at stud have zero stakes winners between them.
Manhattan Cafe was the only other one of that list that was successful, he stood in Japan and died in 2015. I think the rest of them have 1 stakes winner amongst them. That was what I meant by or at least none that anyone would use. Breeders flock to the hot lines and when someone, for example Calumet, tries to bring in outcross stallions breeders don't use them. If there are outcrosses and no one uses them, its pointless.

Going through oldish posts here but I wanted to say that Revolutionary is advertised as being free of Northern Dancer on WinStar's website, since I couldn't say it when I wasn't able to get an account on here.

But knowing WinStar he'll be exported soon because he's not churning out juvy winners like Uncle Mo.
