Who blackballed Americain? 13 entered. Highest price was $2,500. 7 didn’t even draw a bid.

His shedmate Raison dEtat also has issues.

Carpe Diem was in demand more than I’d have thought.

The Danza’s sold surprisingly well.

I wonder where Shanghai Bobby stands next year. South America?

The market appreciates Empire Maker’s return.

The Fast Anna’s must look ok and Liam’s Map most look great.

Graydars must not be coming out well.

Silver Max’s were wildly priced by Adena. 7 offered, 5 RNA

Everyone wants an Into Mischief, MDO, Pharoah and War Front.

People like Kantharos and Street Boss but not Liaison.

Violences look great

Tiznow is most certainly not a sire of sires.

If Paytner isn’t moved/sold I will be shocked.
A quick website search and Shanghai Bobby is not on Coolmore’s site anymore. He just got a Gr.II winner at Ascot for Lord’s sake. Lasted longer than Hansen, though.

IMHO, Americain needs to move to Australia. A Melbourne Cup-winning son of Dynaformer might be appreciated there.

Americain was Leading Second Season Sire in Victoria this past season. He's stood at Swettingham Stud since retirement.
He's had fairly large books in Australia and his first class is turning four...about the time stayers start showing some talent.

Thanks for that reminder; I had forgotten that the big guy has been shuttling.

Americain's first crop is 4yos. He has one stakes winner and 1 stakes placed (this is both Northern and Southern Hemispheres). Add to that he stood in Ireland for the 2015 season. I would say him and Raison d'Etat would be gone from Kentucky but they are at Calumet.
Raison d'Etat is getting the prices that befit his accomplishments or lack thereof. He shouldn't be standing in Kentucky, he sure as hell shouldn't be $5,000 and I believe he started at $10,000. He is regional sire quality at best. He is a G3 placed winner. He first crop is current 3yos and he has had 19 starters out of 56 foals of racing age, with one stakes placed.
Graydar - Its more that his foals haven't done well on the track. His first crop is 3yos, he has 2 Stakes Winners, nothing Graded. I would be surprised if he stays in Kentucky for 2019.
Liaison is another with his first crop as 3yos. He has 3 SWs and 2 more that are Graded Stakes placed. Another that won't be in Kentucky long.
Paynter is another with his first crop as 3yos and his number are also bad. He has 3 stakes winners. He won't be in Kentucky long.

Looking through the list of 2nd crop sires, I don't know how many are going to be around. None have glowing numbers.

I figured he just wouldn't return from shuttling but it appears he hasn't shuttled since his first two years at stud.

He is probably a hard sell. His pedigree isn't commercial, he was a turf runner and he doesn't stand locally.

I forgot Silver Max existed, to be honest. Also kinda forgot Graydar and Liason existed. Is that bad?

While covering the news of Good Magic's retirement, Nick Hines on TVG also mentioned Shanghai Bobby and said he was apparently headed to Japan.

Americain would be quite popular in MD or VA as a primarily steeplechase/sporthorse sire (at a suitable fee of course). If he's stuck at Calumet they ought to market him as such and open his book to non-TB mares.

Do you know that he isn't? Calumet acquired Risque Remarque, the black stallion with flashy markings who was apparently popular with Sporthorse breeders looking for color. And if Calumet made RR available for non-TBs, maybe they have done so with Americain as well, as long as the client was willing to pay his fee?
BTW, a Search on Bloodhorse finds Risque Remarque standing at Colorworld Ranch, AZ for a 2018 private fee. Although RR may have moved on from Calumet, I also saw notes on a few 2yos by him racing this year, and Calumet was listed as breeder.

Really? :o
I have not yet seen anything in Japanese source to date, anyway.

Total of eight Shanghai Bobby babies (now 2yos and 3yos) have been imported and registered in Japan, none of whom broke maiden in JRA yet (one NAR winner).

Here below is the list of the imports:

Kazuko Yoshida (Katsumi Yoshida's spouse) purchased Hakumokuren(USA) at FT 2yo Training Sale in March this year (hip 97).

Bobby has disappeared off Bloodhorse stallion register. He’s definitely overseas-bound.

It's possible Nick got his info about 'Bobby wrong, but I generally view The Sarge as someone with reliable sources.

Too bad he didn’t make a splash in North America. At least he got more of a chance than Hansen. He was super friendly when I went on the Ashford Stud tour last summer, the only stallion that guests were allowed to pet.

Check the Stallion News thread. Someone over there emailed the farm about Shanghai Bobby and they replied that he has been leased to Japan for a year

It’s a one year lease luckily he’ll be back.

Cape Blanco went to Japan for a 1-2 years lease. He didn't come back.

Did Cape Blanco sire an Ascot winner in his first crop? (This is not rhetorical, I'm curious because I'm coming up blank on him as a sire)

What farm does everyone think has the best confo shots? I think Lane's End and Coolmore.

Claiborne is not one of them.
