Interesting question........Commercial sales market is starting to see the value in Kitten's Joy as a stallion? Right as Mr. Ramsey exits and fee with H&D is a more reasonable $60,000......or BECAUSE he's no longer going to be flooding the market with his offspring to cheap mares?
EDIT TO ADD : Roaring Lion's success across the pond might have elevated his interest a bit as well!

Three of his colts have gone for $700,000, $625,000 and the $450,000 above. One filly also went for $650,000 who is out of a mare that has thrown a lot of blacky type with this stallion.
And 'Martin Anthony' is a D. Ingordo pseudonym, so the colt today could be going to anybody.

Goodness, I didn't know that. He's been signing for a horse or two in lots of sales lately and I've wondered about his identity. Thanks for the new knowledge.Horsebagger wrote: ↑Sat Sep 15, 2018 10:23 pm Three of his colts have gone for $700,000, $625,000 and the $450,000 above. Just popped on and was looking through recent results.
The Declaration of Wars are really bombing late in the sale.....one sold for $4000, another sold for $5000, and another for $17,000.
Either he bred some poor mares or they're awfully unfortunate looking....

Zayat went to $800,000 for an American Pharoah, #1558, and there is a photo of the colt on the linked Bloodhorse article. He looks JUST like his sire - the shape of the head, the coloring, the expression in the eyes, the ears. In what you can see of him, he's a duplicate of his dad.

$800,000 for a colt that has already had colic surgery In the showjumping world, colic surgery = resale value is gone. Must be one heck of a nice colt.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 16, 2018 3:49 pm Zayat went to $800,000 for an American Pharoah, #1558, and there is a photo of the colt on the linked Bloodhorse article. The article said "...he had a colic surgery as a foal." I presume that it's been a year or longer since that surgery and he is completely healed.
I'm also under the impression that surgery on foals is not as serious as on an adult, since babies heal fast if they're healthy. Correct me if I'm mistaken.

I feel like that would be the case. I know having your tonsils out as a child or young teen is better than having them out as an adult for that reason (example), so it would make sense if it were the same for animals.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 17, 2018 3:00 pm The article said "...he had a colic surgery as a foal." Only thing I worry about is he’s most likely to get colic again and again. I was told that horses that have colic surgery will most likely get more colic episodes.

As soon as you cut into a horse's intestine to remove an impaction or perform a resection, the horse is automatically more likely to colic again. Once there is a seam that gets stitched up in the intestine, the scar tissue becomes a 'speedbump' of sorts along the gut, which can lead to another impaction.
If the colt had colic surgery where they just cut into the horse to adjust the position/massage the intestine, that wouldn't be as bad. But, if they cut into the intestine itself, the horse will be at risk for the rest of its life. We won't ever know what kind of surgery this American Pharoah colt had, though.

Anyone know who Spartan Bloodstock buy for or are they pinhookers? My favorite foal from last year just sold to them and I’m trying to figure out who they are.

Colic Surgery is probably the reason he 'only' went for 800k. Also the reason the consigners decided to put him in Book 2 as opposed to Book 1 since they felt he'd stand out more. Being a half to two time BC champ secret circle out of a stakes winning mare and looking like a clone of his sire, I'm sure he'd have fetched 7 figures but for the colic surgery.Northport wrote: ↑Mon Sep 17, 2018 2:47 pm$800,000 for a colt that has already had colic surgery In the showjumping world, colic surgery = resale value is gone. I had a filly that developed a meconium impaction at three days old that caused her to colic quite badly. She was taken to the a University of Guelph where she as supported with fluids and enemas. In the course of her stay the veterinarian and I obviously had a discussion about the potential for surgery, and I was told that surgery didn't always have a great outcome as the complication of adhesions was high in such young foals - the intestines can form scar tissue that adheres them to the body wall, or other structures within the abdominal cavity. Thankfully my filly recovered with just supportive care and didn't require surgery!Northport wrote: ↑Mon Sep 17, 2018 5:41 pm As soon as you cut into a horse's intestine to remove an impaction or perform a resection, the horse is automatically more likely to colic again. Looking through the results.
Who blackballed Americain? 13 entered. Highest price was $2,500. 7 didn’t even draw a bid.
His shedmate Raison dEtat also has issues.
Carpe Diem was in demand more than I’d have thought.
The Danza’s sold surprisingly well.
I wonder where Shanghai Bobby stands next year. South America?
The market appreciates Empire Maker’s return.
The Fast Anna’s must look ok and Liam’s Map most look great.
Graydars must not be coming out well.
Silver Max’s were wildly priced by Adena. 7 offered, 5 RNA
Everyone wants an Into Mischief, MDO, Pharoah and War Front.
People like Kantharos and Street Boss but not Liaison.
Violences look great
Tiznow is most certainly not a sire of sires.
If Paytner isn’t moved/sold I will be shocked.
